Default Hatch question

Help! Help!
How is the mechanism supposed to work for closing the hatch on a C6 coupe? At first, I gently lowered the hatch until it touched the lower part, then gently pushed down with 2 hands and the device "sucked" the lid down. Now (after just 1 week) the only way I can get the hatch to close properly is to slam the lid down with one door open. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I believe the electric pull down was designed to work as an assist only. For example, if I pull my hatch down by the inside handle with medium force it catches and pulls down tight every time. If I try to lower it and then push it down, it does not engage properly. You shouldn't have to open a door or window, or slam it hard. If that's the only way yours will close, I would think it is in need of adjustment or repair.

Thanks for your reply. I just tried your approach & it works fine, but only if a door is open.

It works on mine with the doors closed. Pull down on the inside handle a little harder.

I just tried using more force as you suggested. but it still only closes if a door is open. I will probably have to take it back to the dealer for adjustment. Thanks.

Too bad the search tool never works, because there was a long thread that I started on this subject that even had a video on how to properly close the hatch, showing how much force you should have to use.

One of the threads mentioned something about the possibility that pressing the hatch release on the dash "reset" something. Have you pressed the inside hatch release button lately? If not, try that and see if it goes back to normal when you slam it moderately.

Mine would close easily if I had a pet gorilla to jump up and down on it. I have tried the drop from various heights method and the slam with increasing degrees of force up to where I am pretty sure none of the parts involved would be long for this world. No dice. With the door open it closes fine. I can only do it with the door shut if I lower all the way and then put a substantial portion of my 200 lbs on it at which point the latch catches and finishes the job. Talk about annoying. I may be out of line but I think if you need a gorilla to close the hatch the car should come with one.

I'm so used this same problem in the C5, that I just leave a door open, before trying to close the hatch. The problem WAS NOT FIXED, in the C6, despite the Discovery Channel show.

I had a 99 before the C6 and it has definitely been fixed. If yours doesn't close with the doors closed with just a mild assist when dropping the hatch, it is broken and needs to be repaired. Of course, it if is broken, then it's not fixed.

I have had my C6 for two weeks. The closing mechanism has work so far. I gently lower hatch and then a small push on the edge and mechanism sucks it down.

I am having no problem with mine at all, I grab the inside handle and just pull it down with a little extra force and it grabs and I see it suck down if the windows are closed. If they aren't closed it just latches all the way down and I don't see it get pulled down. Mine works every time.

I thought the idea was NOT to have to touch the lids' surface. Mine would probably work with a separate push down, too.

Here's the other thread, complete with video of closing the hatch without touching the outside of the hatch.

Default Help on closing the hatch

Here is a suggestion for closing the C6 hatch.
when closing the hatch with the windows up and the doors closed, leave your hand on the back center of the hatch as it goes into the latch. The C6 is sealed alot tighter than the C5 and has alot of air bind (you can feel the air escaping under the hatch as it closes). Having your hand on the hatch as it goes into the latch will overcome the air bind and let you close the hatch with alot less effort.

In time the hatch will close easier also when the seals will soften up.

Hope this helps

And in time, you'll have to repaint the spot on the hatch where you put your hand if you do this often enough.

Personally I think that if you need the deft hands of a surgeon combined with torque wrench accurate power level to close a hatch it needs work. Having the car programmed to lower the window a little seems like an easy to implement solution to the problem. Im using the open door method on mine.
