...the center mount speaker with an Infinity 3.5" 2-way. Did it myself - very easy.
Another cheesy Bose speaker pulled.
Next up, the 'subs'.
My center speaker is blown. They are supposed to replace it under warranty. How did you do it? Maybe I'll just relace it myself with an infinity also.Does it sound better? Thanks John.
The grill assembly is held in by 5 clips. I used a small screwdriver to pop the grill out. The speaker is secured by 4 bolts. I clipped the wires (yellow is positive) soldered them onto the Infinity & screwed it in place (only used 2 mounting screws).

Does it sound better? My experience has been that factory headunits are week and the weakest link.I have the Sa package but it has the same speakers I'm sure just doen't have the sub amp. Also if its bose they usually use lower impedences so does it match up?
TedG measured the impedance of the stock as standard.
Being a 2-way & more efficient (estimated by db rating), the tone & highs sound crisper.
I replaced the mids in the doors & rear c-panel & they sound great.
My plan is to complete the upgrade with Earthquake SWS-10 speakers in the doors & a 6-channel amp.
Thanks,
What did you replace the door speakers and rear speakers with and was it difficult?Sorry for all the questions but I find the system in my car is just terrible sounding and I'm trying to figure out what needs to go first. Will I still have to replace the headunit. The mids on the current are just annoying its so out of balance and lacks smoothness and definition. Thanks for your expertise.
CircuitCity installed the doors & rears for $73.00 as I didn't feel comfortable removing those panels.
I think the headunit is decent (I have the NAV, so replacing it is not an option). My experience is that a decent amp will clean-up & energize the sound levels.
I wanted to keep a stock look as opposed some of the custom encolsures & boxes some people have had installed.
I've had too many crackheads smash my windows & steal components like those. Plus, space is at a premium, especially with the top stowed.

Perfect!! Just the info I needed! I am going to order a speaker tonight. I was thinking you would have to pull the head unit and the air duct to get at the speaker.
So you are going for the Earthquakes. When you talk amp, are you going to replace the Bose amp under the dash? Or just augment the system? I really want to know the results of the Earthquakes.
This is excellent!!! IMO that center speaker should be disconnected and left that way. I strongly suspect it is that speaker that is really screwing up the soundstage.
Thanks for the investigation

I was thinking the same thing.Usually a center speaker setup would be used with a surround sound system as in the Acura Tl and to benefit from that you need DVD audio recorded 5.1 cd's.Then the system (which has a seperate amp for each channel) will put the intended program material to the correct speaker. With this set-up they're just adding another high/ mid speaker in the middle of the soundstage. All the bass and low mid's go into the speaker which is a 3.5" deal and can't be reproduced.Mine buzzes and sounds like crap. They're supposed to replace it under warranty but I think I'll disconnect it and see how it sounds. Can't listen to it blown anyway.
