Default Electric pull down decklid

On my coupe, I have stll not really figured out the best way to close the decklid. In the DVD they sorta dropped it from a few inches high if I remember correctly. Recently I discovered there is a slot GM built into the inside of the deck lid to pull it down then drop it I guess. Keeps off finger prints.

I have always let it down slowly until it rested against the electric hatch and then pressed down till it caught and pulled down the rest of the way on its own. Leaves finger prints that way but seems the right way. What do you guys do?

I think the intent was to use the handle to pull it down swiftly enough for it to "catch" the pull-down without having to touch the top of the decklid.

Mine has been very inconsistent. Sometimes I can do that. Sometimes I can slam it a little from a height of 12-15 inches. Sometimes nothing works but pushing it down.

Make sure a door or window is open and it will shut even if you drop it from 2 inches.

If you don't have a door / window open the air pressure makes it hard to close.

Cheers!

Use the handle in the right of the center of the decklid. Pull it down firmly from 12-18 inches. Mine closes every time like this.

Same here. Sometimes it will automatically pull it down and sometimes it won't. I've noticed that when a door or window is open while I close the hatch it just goes right down without electronic assist. WTF?

With the rest of the car closed up, let the lid come down, use the palm of your hand to push evenly down at the rear most of the window.

Works EVERY time.

Whatever you do, avoid pushing down on the middle back edge of the hatch on the painted part. C5 folks had problems with the clearcoat cracking. I just got into the habit of opening a door or having a window open when I close the hatch.

Are you saying out your hand on the glass or the deck lid? I have been doing it on the lid and it leaves finger prints.

I never touch the paint, only the rear most part of the glass and with just the heel of my palm.

This works fine for me too. I just flip it down with a little force and it will engage the electric pull-down almost every time. If it doesn't, I just give it a nudge with the palm of my hand and it will close. It's just a matter of finding the right technique. The handle is definitely the best way to close it when the windows and doors are sealed.

I found the same process works for me also.I just close it with a little extra downward force more than just dropping it the air rushes out ,latch catches. Can do it almost everytime .

you guys are right. went out and opened the drivers door, opened the hatch and let it go from about 6 inches and it pulled right down. I thought mine was broken. Now if I could get my brakes to stop squealing I would be set, but I can live with it.

Try the burnishing trick burbs off glazing improves brake performance.Accellerate to 50 come to a total stop using medium to hard force let cool 1 minute (I just dove for a minute),repeat 10-15 times. My brakes were squealing like a pig at a barbeque party. Now they're 90% better, just squeal every now & then .Also gives you a good feel on how your car stops in an emergency.Remember to do it in a back road low traffic area.
