CAGS Question
This may have been addressed before, and if so I apologize in advance. I tried the FAQ with no luck. While I'm waiting I've been doing a bit of reading on the C6.
Here's my question(s):
1. Does the CAGS operate at shifts above or below 2500 rpm? I've read both so I'm a bit confused. My coupe will be a daily driver and I hit a few lights on PCH on my commute and am probably not going to get a lot of 1st to 2nd shifts at 2500 rpm +, yet I don't want get jammed to fourth or wind it out in first. I have considered the CAGS eliminator solution, but would like to know more about it's operation.
And, I know, I know, if it tries to take me from 1st to 4th, hit it with my purse. Thanks in advance for your help.

I didn't get too many CAGS forced shifts to 4th my first week of ownership but I assure you it can kick in at the worst possible time. The 1st to 4th is not only RPM related but it also takes into account the amount of throttle and your coolant temp. I think it works when you apply less than or about 1/4 throttle while in normal operating temps and within a certain RPM range.
CAGS eliminator is simple to install. Takes more time to get my ramps out than it took to install. It does not allow the CAGS forced shift selenoid to engage while sending the proper amount of resistance to the computer to keep it from showing an error message (Check engine light). About $25 delivered and worth every penny.
Page 2-28 of the owner's manual says CAGS will come on when:
The engine coolant temperature is higher than 169 deg. F AND
You are going 15 to 19 MPH AND
You are 21 percent throttle or less.
Don't know if this helps or not.
Someone did post a link to the owner's manual, but I've not looked for it lately.
I drove a couple tires up on the curb threw a blanket down under the back of the car and slid under. Once you get there you cant miss, drivers side, white tag that says skip shift, about 1 minute total time for install. It was 25 bucks with shipping. It is easy to drive around the cags function but considering how painless it is to defeat I cant imagine doing it.

Your source for the $25.00 w/shipping, please? I don't feel like saving a couple of bucks at Radio Shack on a 50K car, thank you.
Most of the forum vendors have em for roughly the same price so pick your favorite and order away. I used WCC, link here --> http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/sho...ail.cfm?id=785 There are two kinds out there, the WCC is the kind I prefer.

I'd suggest taking delivery and driving for awhile before deciding whether you need a CAGS eliminator. I've taken delivery, driven 400 miles so far and not once have I been forced into 4th from 1st. This includes a 50 mile drive yesterday in stop and go traffic. The CAGS eliminator I bought before taking delivery is still sitting in it's package on my dresser. I've decided to wait until I am forced into 4th before I bother considering installing the eliminator. That may be never.
I think the need for the eliminator has a lot to do with the way you drive and where you are comfortable shifting. I have a Z51 which has a really low ratio for 1st which might also have something to do with it.
Before taking delivery, I was convinced I'd need the eliminator, now I doubt I'll ever install it.

I wasn't bothered by CAGS until I started driving in stop and go traffic in Atlanta and Asheville and it is really a PITA.I finally figured out to shift to third when I feel it activated.I'm installing a 2.2 ohm resistor and eliminating it.If you never drive in cities it won't bother you but I feel it serves no useful purpose so my vote is get rid of it!

Right on. Thanks, that's the kind of info I can use. I've ordered the Z51 too, so I'll take a wait and see approach. I was waiting for someone to either tell me to hit it with a purse or say that the CAGS eliminator is already installed stock on the auto
I'm gonna' have to look into that... Doesn't bother me very much, but occasionally in traffic..., left hand turns... pain in the tailpipes...
I felt the same way the first 1200-1500 miles, then got caught in it about 3 times in 2 days. I probably would have installed one if I hadn't traded for an auto.
