I found a C6 that is optioned the way I like with one exception. It is an Auto with the G90 option. The deal seems fair but I am not sure what performance issues without the better gearing. My guestion is, how much will this really affect performance and I assume the I could always have the gearing changed later.

I took one without the optional gear in 1994 because they had it in stock and wished I hadn't for the next 10 years until I bought a 2004. I drove 2 2004's back to back, one with the optional gear and one without. To me it made a huge difference. I think you should drive one of each back to back and see if it is important to you. I think it makes the 2004 feel much sharper. Don't know if it would be as noticeable with the extra 50 hp in the 2005.
If you are just going to use it as a daily driver i don't think you really need it. I also think it may affect the gas mileage a little. If not, maybe you should consider it.
You could always throw in a little steeper gear like a 3:42 and really stomp butt. I wouldn't worry about the gearing since replacements gears will allow you to do things the factory could never do.
I had the 2.73 gears in my 02. It was as one would expect not as quick from 0-40---came out slower then the 3.15. Once to were cruising at 70/75 the 2.73 was in it's element--turned lower rpm's and used less gas. In fact you could get the car to kick down to 2nd gear at 85 which I modified with programming to kick down to 2nd at 90. In this range the 2.73 can really run with some exotic and expensive cars. The 3.15 is in my new c6. From to 100 and above it will show the 2.73 taillights. But it won't kick down to 2nd above 75. I f the two cars were side by side at 80 mph the 2.73 will give you 2nd gear and the 3.15 will only give you 3rd at lower rpm's. Neither is slow--one is geared for acceleration and the other more for freeways. If you want the thrill of the quickness right out of the box I would opt for the 3.15.What GM REALLY NEEDS TO DO IS ADD ANOTHER GEAR OR TWO TO THE AUTO.
If you are looking for quick acceleration, you will be disappointed with the 2.73 gears. Others may tell you that you can get the 2.73 for now and later put in 3.42 or 3.73 gears. Problem with that approach is that you will end up spending around $2,300 for gears, higher stall torque converter (might as well do this as well to get the most benefit), labor, and fluids. Throw in an extra $250-$300 for a hardened output shaft. If possible, drive both a 2.73 and a 3.15 auto and see whether the difference in the two is important enough for you. There was talk of an A6 auto in the C6. Not sure the time frame for that. Maybe some one can jump in with that info. If it's going to be introduced in MY06 and you can wait, might be worthwhile. I imagine an A6 C6 will hold its resale value better than an A4 C6.
I wouldn't get it matter of fact having that option gear ratio especially on the automatic is more important and crucial. It will make the difference between a sale or not at least with me that is why you have to do a factory order to get exactly what you want.
If you want a car on the ground I would give the vettenet a call. There are enough of them on the ground now that I would not be suprised if they can find a car with your options. IMO its never a good idea to buy less than exactly the car you want.

If you don't get what you want now, chances are you will regret it.
