I picked up my C6 a couple of weeks ago and overall it is awesome. What an improvement over the C5. I am having a problem with the Automatic Volume control however. The owner's manual indicates on page 3-78 that it can be adjusted in Min, Med. or Max options however when I press the Auto Volume button the options are on or off. In addition it is not clear about how to set the AVOL Audio Pilot. It says to press the Automatic Volume button until the AVOL ON appears. However it again only says Automatic Volume On. My guess is that with the Bose System there is no Min-Max option and in the manual they meant to write Automatic On not AVOL. In any case the Auto volume does not seem to work as well as in the C5. Other than that and the missing volume and channel changer buttons I would like to see on the Steering Wheel--I have no complaints. GM did an awesome job on this car.
Or at least offer it as an option, like Porsche does on the 911 . . . .
for only $990! oh and only $390 more for auto dimming rear view mirrors.
Maybe Chevy just had to draw the line somewhere to be able to sell the C6 at it's present price point. I do miss the radio volume controls though that I have on my GMC pickup.

I agree the manual is unclear. However, it does say that if your vehicle has the Bose audio system, etc. When you get the 1SB option, you get that system, so it does just have the Bose AudioPilot noise compensation technology, not the MIN, MED, or MAX on the Automatic Volume.
With the radio turned on, press the "AUTO" button, which is the last button on the right on the bottom row. If the auto volume was off, "AUTO VOL ON" will display on the radio display screen. If it was already on, it will be turned off, and "AUTO VOL OFF" will be displayed.
I have the stereo with the Nav system. I have the automatic volume control on but it doesn't seem to affect the volume at all. Is it because the cockpit is so quiet now? In my '01 C5 when you accelerated the stereo volume increased as the noise in the cockpit increased. Anyone else experience this with their C6? Thanks.
They probably figured people would be so busy poking at the dough boy that if they added buttons, people would exceed the PPM (poke per minute) limit sited by the NHTSA/insurance institute which could cause an accident.
with TedG on this one and take it one step further - the Nav system in this car is definetly first generation (old) it is the most user un-friendly nav system I have had in a car. Very few things I don't like in the C6 (major improvements over my C5) and this is one of them.

I appologize in advance, but I have to say
The NAV in the C6 is the fourth I've owned and definitely the worst of the bunch. It doesn't get much more unfriendly than this.
I'm not unhappy with the Nav. The only thing I don't like about it, is that you can't enter a new destination while driving AND that stupid I accept screen. Granted I have little experience with other systems, and ignorance is bliss. But all in all I like it.
The radio does leave a bit to be desired. Here is my whiny list:
1. XM amplitude level compared to CD.
2. XM sound quality.
3. Lack of song info while in NAV mode.
4. Crappy Bose speakers and amp.
5. WTF happened to the 6 disk changer they promised?
6. No service manual available, so I can fix the Bose.
7. Bose automatic volume control is a worthless POS.
Here is what I like:
1. Names of stations on the buttons.
2. Separate equalizer setting for each and every station AM, FM, and XM this is a very cool feature.
3. Display and touch screen.
4. Voice commands.
My auto volume works. How I know mine is "Working" was to turn the volume down low at a stop and with the motor at "Idle" then press the "Auto" button-after coming to a stop like a traffic signal I'll notice that the sound is much louder for a second or two and drops back down to the volume level I had set when at idle.
What is happening, I think, is that the sound microphone bases it self on your current noise level at the point when you press the auto button and raises the volume when you excede that established level. If you set the auto while you are driving, road and V8 noise levels would have to increase beyond where you set the "Auto" function. Of course, if you like it loud, then the Auto volume thing is a mute issue.
