If they do come out with paddle shift will that allow the driver to over-ride the automatic and perform those manual 3rd gear 2500-6000 rpm shifts? Best of both worlds? Dave
I'd want to drive it first but probably. Must be 6 spd or better

Since most other sports cars already have that option, which would you choose if you were to buy, say, a 911? I'll admit it does bring the two sides a little closer but I'd still get the manual.
Stickshifts don't make any sense. I mean, there are THREE pedals. How many feet do you have? The mind boggles. Plus if you're holding your cell phone in your left hand, that means you have to hold your coffee and shift at the same time while steering with your knee.
Some of us can use the 3 pedals use a phone and shift ..all at the same time. If I have to explain how....well, you wouldn't believe me.
When we bought our '04 we wanted a great road car. For that we went with the auto. The manual is fun, yes, but on the road, cruising, the auto is best. You cannot beat an auto for instant acceleration, just push down on the gas and you are gone. With a manual you have a delay to reach for the shift, press in the clutch, then move the shift to the correct gear. That takes time and all the time the auto is accelerating away. Also, when cruising, running under cruise control, you hit a long uphill grade. With the manual you have to down shift, the auto takes care of that for you and keeps you running at the same speed. No sweat, easy drive, great long distance car. Just need the auto.
But, I must agree, you cannot beat the fun factor of the manual. That is why my big block C3 is a manual
I miss my six speed with hurst shifter that I drove from 3/99-9/04 (when I killed her). I'm learning how to drive the A4, which is different. I may grow to like it. I have mixed feelings...grieving the loss of my C5 and getting used to the stock A4. I see a Z06 in my future.
It's only about the fun factor!!! That's why we buy these cars. I had an SL55 in '03 and all that 493 HP, and tons of torque were blotted out by the fact that MB doesn't make a manual in the US. That car lasted 6 months BORING! 6 speeds rule!!
I totally agree. I drove an E55 with 460+ hp, and the auto tranny really took away some of the fun.
