There have been posts here about people preferring the standard suspension or the adjustable suspension to the Z51. The Z51 rides a little harder and some people are more sensitive to ride than others.
However, what you describe as a rough ride has never been a complaint here on the Forum except for a few who had the F55 adjustable suspension and the dealer forgot to remove the shock stuffers. If your FIL's C5 has the adjustable suspension, check to see if there is a tag hanging down from each shock absorber. If so, they need to be removed and you will notice a big difference.
I may need to check my shocks. I haven't experiemented very much, but I can't seem to tell any difference in ride quality on normal roads around my home. I have less than a thousand miles, and am beginning to experiement more. Over the weekend I found one spot in a backroad where the car...rubber air dam...actually bottoms out at speed...80mph...in touring mode. I want to go back and make a few runs in sport mode to see if I can feel a difference.
I only have a few miles on my C6 but I have been really trying to notice the difference. My former car (Mits 3000GT) had an adjustable suspension also so I kind of know what to look for. I must say that the F55 Mag Suspension system is just marginally noticible compared to the similar system on my other car. I have tested it over small speed bumps and rough roads. There is a slightly noticible softness in the Touring mode, while the Sport mode is more solid.
Body Roll: I have noticed virtually no difference in body roll but I have not really pushed the car yet.
Braking: Again I haven't gone out and done really hard braking yet but I anticipate this is one area that the suspension will be beneficial in not getting nose tuck.
Not scraping the nose underside: Huge diference. To park I must go up a sharp incline. Going up isn't too bad out of the Sport mode but going down is another story. With Sport mode on and slow driving the underside doesn't scape. This is due to the suspension not allowing the car nose to tuck/pitch down as the car transitions from sloped road to flat road. This is a big help and I will probably always drive in Tour mode but pull into the driveway and do city driving (rougher roads) in Sport mode.
Does anybody have a picture of these 'tags' that are placed in the shocks on Mag Selective ? Where are they exactly ? Where do I have to be to see them ? Under the car ?
1500 miles so far, but with little agressive driving.
Vette is marginally rougher than my BMW 328Ci (non-sport pkg.)
On smooth, straight roads there is no difference.
Sport mode does seem to limit body lean in curves a bit.
Can't wait for spring/track time to explore more. There better be a difference for the price of the option (& shock replacement price!)
I agree that there is a night and day difference. I find the car has a completely different character in tour vs sport. The tour mode is "cadillac" like with some lean and sort of a floating feel whereas the sport mode is very in touch with the road giving more feedback and much less lean. The car handles great in either mode when pushed but because of the lean and floating feeling in tour mode you're less inclined to push it. A softer sprung vehicle would behave in a linear fashion and lose control but the Vette in tour mode gets tighter as you push it and stays in control but because of the way I am conditioned I only tend to push the car in sport mode when it feels like it's limits are higher. To be honest I'm not sure that the limits of the cars ability differ much in either mode....just the feel and perception of the car at normal cruising speeds.
how good is this for all you who have it in their C6
are we talking luxury ride? or just less bumpy from a serious sport suspension....i guess sompare it to a sedan or somthing
i know that is crazy, but again...my FIL's C5 wears me smooth out
Perhaps you have gathered from the posts that there is no consensus. The only way to go, IMO, is pick the worst stretch of road that you drive and take test drives. Then ask yourself how important the difference is in what you give up. I see more curves than I do rocky roads, but situations vary.

This is pretty much what I am experiencing. There is a slight difference but at this point it is hard to tell. When I switch from mode to mode I can hear a noise in the rear. It is normal for the front air dam to scratch as it was made that way and won't do any harm.

I believe they stop using shock stuffers some time ago. I have the MSRC option on my C6 and I love it. It's like having two cars for the price of one. In the touring mode it rides like a Cadillac and in the sport mode it rides like a Z51. I will never own another Corvette without F55. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Once you have MSRC, you will have it in the ON position all the time. I would highly recommend it!

This is realtime dampening I see it as a safety extra added feature that keeps all the wheels on the ground per that test with driving over a pothole at 120 mph or showing the two corvettes one is air born and the F-55 one isn't. I think that I saw that on Corvetteactioncenter.
