When I was buying my Corvettes in Florida, one time I laminated the paper plate and attached it to the rear like a metal plate.
My C6 I bought from Les Stanford and in Michigan they tape the plate to the inside hatch glass on the left side so it won't obstruct rear vision. I thought it was neat there, almost like driving without a plate, so I left it there. I'm sure New York didn't like it there but as the car was registered in Michigan and it was legally displayed for that state, it had to be OK in New York also.
