I stopped by the local dealer today to have them take a look at the rear hatch switch (located above license plate) since it only works about half of the time. They do not have a certified Corvette technician but said they should be able to take care of such a small problem. When the tech looked at it he said he would order a switch. I then asked him how in the world do you remove it? I had previously looked at removing it myself but the fasterners are like none I have ever seen. To me it looks like you insert some type of tool in the rivet and it will release. He wasn't sure but said they would drill it out and replace it with a new one.
Is this the proper procedure for replacing the switch? I really didn't feel like driving 2 hours to a dealer with a Corvette Tech just to replace a switch but I don't want someone using a drill on my new C6 either if it is not neccesary.

The screw on the right is a torx that holds the license plate light in. The one that holds the switch is to the right of the switch (the second screw from the right).
Is it really a broken switch, or just the normal "pull-down" situation many of us continue to experience?
No, it closes fine. This problem is when trying to open the hatch with the button above the license plate. Sometimes it works sometimes it won't. I am not sure that the switch is bad but it will open using the button on the FOB or the button on the dash every time.
