The first time you press the Onstar button in your car, they will walk you through the features. They will also offer you 100 minutes of phone time for $19.99 if you have your credit card. This is in addition to the free 30 minutes that you get. I didn't have my credit card when the salesman pressed the button and the lady we spoke with said to just call back when I got home. I did, and then they said that they could not make that offer, only the "welcome" group could and they didnt know how to reach them by phone. They offered me the higher price and I declined (I was pretty annoyed). A few weeks later, I received a call from Onstar and they said they had "noticed" that I had not used my 30 free minutes mintues yet. I told them what happened and they offered me the 100 minutes for $19.99 again. I accepted. A few days later I got my credit card bill and they had charged me twice. I called them back and they said "oops" sorry for the inconvenience. Took the second charge off my card and let me keep the 2nd 100 minutes for free since I was inconvenienced by having to call and complain. You can't beat that! Now I have 230 mintues for $19.99.

They called me 30 days after I received my C6 and offered me 200 minutes for $19.99 which I accepted. Four months earlier they offered me 100 minutes for $19.99 on my Tahoe. I asked why they didn't offer me the 200 minutes and was told that was the best they could do at that time but now they are offering more minutes for the same price. So they should of offered you the 200 minutes at the beginning. But that's great that they did give you they extra minutes.
I'm sure most have heard already but you can switch the Onstar phone service to Verizon Wireless at no charge. I was already a Verizon customer and added my Dad's Yukon with Onstar for only $10 more a month to my bill. There is also a "share" plan promotion that adds 100 minutes to your "anytime" minutes. Your vehicle, issued a different cell number, will share the minutes in your plan with your regular cell phone. You also have two "call forwarding" options so that if you are in your vehicle all calls will be automatically forwarded to the vehicle. Also, any Verizon to Verizon calls, to include your cell phone to your vehicle, are free. I travel a lot with my job and many places are rural. Verizon has been great if anyone is thinking about switching. Hope this helps.
Please don't take this wrong, but I don't understand. Do you really think the Onstar folks are constantly monitoring your speed and/or location??? IMHO the ability to notify them (and then the authorities) if airbags are deployed is very cheap insurance. Couple that with the ease of hands-free communication through your speaker system and I'm sold on this system. I haven't used any of the other features yet and as much as I would hate to see it happen, calling them up to read an error code sounds beneficial also.
Oh, and I paid $19.99 for an additional 100 minutes.
...when looking over the options list, Onstar is one box I would absolutely NOT check
I value my privacy and it isn't worth it, period
I didn't custom order my C6, but it came with onStar. There is a fuse you can pull under the passenger kickpanel to disable onStar. Years ago I had it on my Silverado, and I never used it. I don't plan on using it on my vette. Right now I'm taking advantage of the first year for free.

Sorry but this is not correct unless you have a digital OnStar System. C6 Vettes have been getting Analog/Digital ready units (unless it change within the last couple of weeks). The OnStar system in my C6 will not work with Verizon. In fact, OnStar called me Thursday to welcome me and I gave them a broadside. They said they think will have an upgrade in a year! They only good thing is if you have it, it can be upgraded ... one of these days.
