First post!
I have been eyeing many different cars as a replacement. I like the 96 Viper GTS and also looked at an exotic Ferrari 328GTS. If you were to run the two into each other you'd get a C6 Vette! And the C6 has all the electric goodies that the other's don't have. Being an airline pilot, I got to have electric goodies to play with! Heads Up Display, BRILLIANT!
I've been reading this forum for many weeks now and got tons of info both bad and good. So when I went to my local dealer I was prepared.
The first sales guy I ran into knew very little of the new Vette. He was smart enough to at least admit it. He gave me the coveted secret brouchure that has the fancy cover and DVD inside. I later found out that he was not suppose to (no other dealer would give me one!). He then handed me off to the Sales Manager who after finding out I had looked at Ferrari's proceeded to tell me about his 360 Ferrari in his garage. I guess I should have gone into the car sales business instead of flying! He was very condensending. Then I got passed off to some gal who had reportedly gone to "Corvette School". So I asked several questions about minor details like the Nav system and playing CD's while using it. "Oh no" she says, can't play a CD and use the Nav system at the same time, only one slot. So does it display on the HUD I ask? "No", she replied. Well I thought, what's the point in this option?
Next day I went to a different dealer. Found another salesperson who went to "Vette School". This guy however knew his stuff! He spent an hour with me and included a test drive and never asked for a buck. I was sold. He still wouldn't give me the super secret brouchure!
Now I'm trying to figure out a way to order this car and get the best bang for the buck. If I buy from an internet dealer, will it **** off my local dealer who is going to ulimately service the vehicle and install some more options as they become available. Or should I just order from him locally and wait patiently for my new car to be built?
I read all the posts about allotments and orders and I must say I am totaly confused. If I place an order with my local dealer, doesn't that get put on a list in Bowling Green and built in some logical order? And why can't the dealer tell me the process. It seems to be a big secret. I just want to order a new C6 with everything I want and nothing I don't. I want it new not used and bought from another dealer. I want it shipped to my location, prepped and ready to drive home.
Can someone out there tell a rookie how this process is suppose to work?
Thanks for all your info. This is truly a great site!

Buy from a forum sponsor and have it Courtesy delivered to a dealer near you. You can even watch your car get unloaded from Allied if you get lucky.
I also bought off a dealer that much futher then my local Chevy dealer.
I've done this with other cars also, and believe me, the service dept could care less where you bought the car. There happy to get the service and waranity business.
Go to corvette.com and do a vechicle search for the car you want, then go there and buy it.

As a fellow pilot, I'll tell you my 2 cents and see what you think. I ordered my car from Monica at Maxie Price (she is here on the forum if you want to talk, or just call her up). She was outstanding in service and support throughout the whole ordering, building, and delivering process. I had never ordered a Vette before and she made the experience a blast. Kept me very informed about the build status of my car too, and answered all sorts of dumb questions I had.
Since I live in Texas, the delivery option was a bit of a mystery to me too. But she made it easy. The car comes off the line and hops on a car carrier slated for your neck of the woods. It was here within a week, no extra cost, and all I had to do was choose the Chevy dealer I wanted and they would send it there. I had to pay the local dealer a fee for PDI, prep and such, but that is expected anywhere you buy a car. Monica's allocation is very big, so she should be able to get your car built very fast.
Good luck, keep us posted and don't be afraid to take the best deal wherever you find it. The local shop will love having you as a customer.

Appreciate your post-now 60 yrs old & retired, decided once in my life decided to order a new Corvette from BG with my color, options etc. I have never ordered a new car EVER. Have owned 5 vettes, plus I will have the opportunity to see it come off the line & be the first to crank it. In my very humble opinion, it just doesn't get better that opportunity.

Can't wait! I know this is a slam to the Mustang, but I can't wait to get out of a kids car and get an adult one!

I wish I had been able.
It sounds complicated but I'm sure any forum dealer will get the drift.....
OR - another member here can explain better.
Whatever....you'll be smiling for a LONG time!
Try this to get on your dealers good side. Most dealers get all the C6s they are allocated as soon as they become available. So go in and say you want one and want it now and are ready to buy. When they say that they have to order one, ask about their allocation and when they will get one. If they don't have one right then tell them you can't wait. Then go to the internet, locate a car and go buy it. The dealer can't get too pissed when you gave them first try.

Look at this scenario. What if you bought a new Vette and were then immediately transferred to another city. Would you sell your new Vette and buy another from the local dealer just so he wouldn't be pissed and give you good service? I think not. Buy the car where you get the best price for the car YOU want.
The world is a changing market place and sooner or later dealers are going to have to accept that they no longer compete only with other local dealers. They now compete nationally and globally.
