Default How does allocation work?

My dealer says he has allocation for 2 Corvettes in February, but he also says that it could be anywhere between the first and the last week of February before the order is accepted by GM. Is this true?

He also suggested that I place the order now, as there is a chance that GM could pull it early if I don't choose constraint items. True?

Thanks!

I'm new to this, but as it was explained to me, a dealer is allocated just so many cars based on sales in the prior year. The smaller a dealer, the fewer the cars and the longer it will take to receive your car. If you have a hight volume dealer in your area, you are probably better off ordering from there. Maybe Dave of Kerceck will see your post and respond. He has been very helpful in explaining these types of things.

I've posted this before, but the answer is, "you have to shop around." When I ordered in September, before I joined this forum or knew about forum dealers, I shopped five dealers in my area. None of them had delivered any retail Corvettes, yet. Only three of them had cars in stock. The high volume Corvette dealer in my area (SW Ohio) had 16 orders ahead of me. Other dealers had 2 or 3 ahead of me. Four of the five could not or would not say when they would have an allocation. One small Corvette volume dealer had an allocation and placed my order immediately. My car was delivered 34 days later, only the second one delivered by that dealer.

To me, getting the car I wanted ASAP was more important than the dealer's Corvette sales volume.

We've been told by one of the forum dealers that your dealer will know what his allocation is for the next 4-5 weeks and exactly which week he'll get his allocation. He'll also know what his allocation is for the 4-5 weeks after that, but won't know exactly which week and how many each week.

GM won't pull it early. They'll pull it when your dealer gets his allocation. But you are better off ordering something not on constraint, if you can, unless you don't mind waiting.

Another thing to remember if you do order something that is on constraint and the dealers allocation comes up he has to order something at that time. So your order will get push back until the next allocation comes up. If what you want is still on constraint your order will get pushed back again.

Like the Dual top option which has been on constraint forever. I drop that one to get my car first. I figure maybe in a year or two they should have the translucent tops and hopefully the rush to get them would have slowed down but at this rate that they are going ?????
