HEAD UNIT replacement (RIPOFF?)

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Apparently with the C6, it is easy to replace the front and rear speakers with aftermarket (with the exception of the 10's in the doors), Your right on the C5's, most people went with a new Stereo head and speaks....

Oh!, you dont know what that means? You must not know crap then! Well I will tell you what it means......Thanks For Trolling My Thread!

Okay it is in. i just got home and my eclispe avn 2454 is in and working. the wiring harness from the c5 works along with a bose interface unit. everything is working fine and it sounds great. now to go out and unplug the wire to the parking brake so when listening to live concert dvds the picture will be on the screen instead of cutting out. just one more toy in the coolest car on the road. now i got to get my jl audio speakers in!!!!
Here is a link to a picture of his install.

Now that is what I'm talking about! Thanks!

Also, the radio head on a C6 (as well as the C5) is part of the Serial Data comm link that connects all the major components of the car to each other. For these reasons, the Vette (and some other GM vehicles) require special jumper wire harness for power. In addition, due to the Bose setup, they also require special harnesses for speaker hookup.
Now, for your other question on what PCM/BCM is, the following will describe the two different internal communication systems used on the Vette, and the controllers connected in both systems.
The Corvette has two different internal communication systems; on is called the GMLAN and is a high-speed system that allows the following computers to communicated:
BCM (body control module)
OnStar module (communication interface module)
ESC (electronic suspension control) module
TCM (transmission control module)
EBCM (electronic brake control module)
ECM (engine control module)
The other is a class 2 comm link connects the following components:
DDM (driver door module)
DDS (driver door switch)
DPM (driver position module)
HUD (head up display)
IPC (instrument panel cluster)
SDM (sensing and diagnostic module)
SCLCM (steering column lock control module)
BCM
OnStar Module
DRR (digital radio receiver) (aka XM Radio)
FTC (folding top controller)
HVAC control module
PDM (passenger door module)
Radio
RCDLR (remote control lock door receiver)
There is no PCM on the C6; as there was on the C5. Technically speaking a PCM is a powertrain control module, and includes the programming for the engine and transmission inside one separate module. However, on the C6, there are two separate modules; an ECM (engine control module) and a TCM (transmission control module - auto only.)
A note to finish off this message. For those who leave their cars sit a long time between running without a battery tender, remember, the majority (maybe all) of these modules draw current, even when the vehicle is turned off.
Now, you have probably learned more than you asked for, and I need a life.
