Default Will the 06' Z06 be like the 01' Z06 or the 04' SSR?

What happened to the 01' Z06 and the 04' SSR? They got a hefty upgrade the following year with the 01' Z06 going from 385hp to 405hp and the SSR getting rid of the vortec 5.3 in favor of the 400hp LS2.

Will GM history repeat itself once again?

I doubt it, but who knows, I think this might happen if viper guys answer with a big punch from their side...otherwise this car is perfectly designed and I doubt they would want to refresh it for 2-3 years or so..

The GM Corvette engineering staff will continue to improve the car year after year. It will evolve over time (maybe 3-6 years) before it is time for C7. Write to GM and tell them what you want in a corvette. It may help us all get a better car.

this would only happen if GM does the same with the C6 from 400 to 425...else it wouldnt happen on the Z06, atleast it wouldnt make sense, surely 08/09 is a different Q

why wouldnt they do it to the c6 also. They got to keep coming with improvements to keep selling. Performance improvements seem to be the best seller. Wonder how much more sales they would get if they upgraded interior though.

They've got such an awesome platform to work with now with the bigger motor and better brakes and dry sump oil system, etc.. that I don't think part replacement will necessarily be seen for a few years, I could see squeezing out a little more power from that big engine after a year or two, and improving interior a bit could help although I think they've done a pretty dang good job with the improvements they've made to the interior of the Corvette over the past few years IMO.

i hope you are kidding, cuz either of the 2 posibilities are very bleak..its in recession for quite sometime, by the time C7 would be int he market 2011-2012 or something, the US economy would be seeing another smaller boom due to biomed engg...(it would be bigger if not for the stupid decission to not fund stem cell research)

I'll be very surprised if we see much more horsepower. It becomes very hard to put to the ground. And frankly, I think we are not far from seeing some serious issues due to EPA, CAFE and insurance issues putting a damper on the horsepower war that is going on right now. I don't anticipate another early '70's where performance went down the tube, but I think we could see the upward spiral slow to a crawl.

Just my opinion, of course.

I am waitng to see how much power they can muster out of this C6Z06 platform and buy the fastest one which ever year that is I do not know yet. I think 2007 or 8 will be it for C6 when sales drop off.

American cars are not moving off the lots, a lot of foriegn stuff is moving.

Should have never let Non American companies into NASCAR racing.

First on raceday will sell your brand on Monday!

Chevy always leaves some on the table for future hoopla. This model in particular is the tip of the tech sword for GM in the max performance arena. That means this car will be subject to systematic incremental improvements each year as long as it is available.

my predictions:

LS-7: With 7K rpm capablility, there is an easy 50HP left with cam changes. My prediction is another 25HP for MY07 and another 25HP for MY08.

Drivetrain: We will see a sequential gearbox option by MY08 if not sooner.

Brakes: carbon-ceramic rotors by MY07 w/attendant 60lb unsprung weight savings hoopla by GM.

Body:
There will be a targa option by MY08 or as soon as Dave Hill no longer has direct control, whichever comes first.

They may spice things up for MY06 with a club racing package (seats, harnesses, etc.)

I also predict the car will be cancelled by MY08 if it is behind the target or very slow. Price will be the factor here. I also think there is far more profit in the car at $65K base pricing than many suspect. Definitely not like the ZR-1 in that respect.

Some people say a turbo is on the table behind the Z06 and that it's a hint at the future, who knows; but it will improve.

Yes, and if you look closely, is that a removable roof next to one of the tool chests? Hint?
Sorry, I too am very anxious for the Z's to get here, and sarcastic humor is the only way for me to stay sane.

No, but that yellow cord on the ground is to plug in the battery for the eletric supercharger

I though that's what that was, but I didn't want to say anything and sound silly.

Why would you buy one of the early ones when you will be low man on the power pole as the C6 gets improved?

I am waiting for a better color selection also. My friend just got his C6 coupe LeMans blue and it is very nice! It is not a Z06 by any means.

The people that bought the early SSR's lost a ton of money after the 05's came out with the vette's drivetrain. They paid 50+ for the thing and now they are offered for trade in at $26,000 after one year!

Yes it will get more power. Everything in history does.
Word on the Viper is another 100 ponies for next year.
