Default Resale value

Any sense how a corvette maintains its resale value vs. a 911, m3/m5 or rs4? Are there depreciation curves that are a good rule of thumb. Any sense if the 2006 z06 should depreciate similar or better than older models. Also, I saw someone say they are only going to make 5000 z06? Any truth to this?

It all depends, the C5s seemed to hold real good resale value up until 2001. Shoot it was hard to get lower than MSRP for any C5s before '00 so the resale was high. If Z06s don't sell well and dealers start discounting alot them resale will drop, if they sell well dealers won't discount much and resale will be good.

5000 is first year production. 7000 per yer after to about 15% of total production.

As for resale, drive and enjoy or park and hide.

It is not an investment it is a car. Unless you get the first "Blue Devil" with Dave Hill's DNA encapsulated enjoy the car.

Only that Corvettes have a stronger following and in greater numbers than a 911, etc. Plus by the time 911's, etc. hit the resale market, their potential high maintenance costs make them less attractive.

Yes, about 15% of total C6 production works out to about 5000 Z06's.

Default Depreciation

The Chevy will depreciate faster. Invest in real estate. But, you can't drive the wheels off of real estate.

When you think about depreciation on a vette, keep in mind the acquisition cost. I have seen on-line arguments between prosche and vette enthusiasts claim a lower percentage depreciation over the long term, but they fail to note that the actual $$ lost on a porsche would generally be much higher than the vette.

PS, I got a quote to sell my c6 with 18k miles back to the dealer for 41k(plus the bonus of no 7% FL sales tax on 41k of my Z06 when is arrives). Sticker was around 51,300.

I believe total Corvette production comes in between 35,000-40,000 a year.

15% of that is ~5,500.

However, I recall the FAQ saying it could be 15-20% of total production, in which case it could go to 7,000 or so...

It all depends on how many cars are going to be produced. In the past, GM would make as many cars as a market could swallow and then some more that they would sell with discounts.

There is no doubt that there is a market for about 2-3K of 70K corvettes - but if production goes into 7K/year - they would have to discount it - and that would drop the resale value to crappers.

I heard on the local news today that a 2 bedroom Mobile home in Malibu just sold for $1.2 Million(and it had NO land-just leasing).

Now that's one investment you could drive the wheels off of, and then buy an Enzo with the proceeds

I saw this too but the land lease is CHEAP as it is rent controlled and its OVERLOOKING the ocean!

C6 Z06 will retail as a preowned vehicle at approximately 40 grand in 3 to 4 years. Check residuals on leased C6 Z06's and you'll get a much closer look. My expectation would be 60% of retail price three years down the road....70 grand x .60% = 42 grand

Hope that answers your question.

Where did you come up with that? Anything to back up that statement or are you just pulling it out of the air? I find it difficult, at best, to believe you can get one of these for that money that soon. Try about 55k or so in 3 years that would be alot closer. What you don't realize is the vast potential of this vehicle. The older Z's are no comparison. We are talking a 505 hp car... or supercar if you wish. If you really believe that, I've got some nice oceanfront property in illlinois to sell you....cheap!

That's what they said about the '67 big block cars. As for resale, it's all relative. When the C5 Z06 came out it was a lot of horsepower at the time compared to other cars. We are in a horsepower war now so 505 hp isn't such a big deal considering all the other cars on the market (Viper, SRT-10, Shelby, GT, and all the other European brands putting out crazy amounts of horsepower). And besides at this rate 505 hp will really not be a big deal considering what is coming down the road (Blue Devil?).

I find this theory pretty interesting, and basically agree. Anyone who is looking for a higher resale probably has their name on a list to get a Z and is concerned about the drop in value. Then again, this is all speculation since the first Z has not rolled off the line yet.

Actually, come to think of it... to this date, this entire C6 Z section is all speculation and opinion.
