Default Tires/wheels

First off, what I'm looking to do is put some ultra high preformance all weather or more preferably snow tires on a Z06. There's tires from both of the catagorys that will fit on a 19 inch rim, but non that can make the 12 inch width ( of the rear ). Does anybody know if the front wheels on the Z06 can be mounted on the back? Or, can I mount ninteen inch wheels with an 11 inch width ( or 18 inch wheels with an 11 inch width)? I just don't want to get stuck somewhere when it starts to snow and be completely screwd, and also the OEM tires are not so great in the cold, so snow tires would be great. At the very least, does anyone know of any way to put snow tires/ ultra high preformance all weather tires on a Z06? I'm not opposed to buying a second set of wheels. Call me crazy, but this will be my everyday car. I won't purposly drive it in snow, but I will drive it in the cold. Any input would be great. And I know I could just buy a beater, but that not what I wan't to do. Thanks so much, you guys are the best!

The Z06 is not good to drive in the snow and ice.

- The front airdam will plow snow & slush over 2 " deep.
- The torque availble is not consistant with driving on slippery roads.
- These cars do not handle well in the wet, let alone sleet, snow & ice.
- You really have to practice defensive driving with a Fiberglass car with Carbon Fibre fenders, they do not stand up well in close proximity to other metal objects.
- Just think of all that anti-skid material being splashed on your hood.

Now that I have been politically correct:

Being from New York you ought to know better.

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FRIGG'N MIND ??

ARE YOU REALLY CONSIDERING DRIVING A $75,000 SPORTS CAR IN THE SNOW & SALT ??

GET A BEATER or and SUV !!!!!!!!

Seriously, use another car and put the Z06 up for the winter, drop the Insurance coverage to Comprehensive only (wind/fire/theft), and use the savings to buy another car if necessary. Save the car and your life.

Well, see the in the post I mentioned I would never drive it in snow intentionally, so relax. I happen to be a Doctor, and at times I can be in the hospital from 7 Am till 10 PM. Suppose it starts to snow while I'm halfway through my day. It was nice in the morning, no snow in the forcast, but low and behold here comes the snow. Being a new yorker, you should know this happens all the time. Now its time to go home. I would rather not get stuck at night, or risk my life driving home. I do have other cars-6 of them- but that doesen't really matter. And with the appropriate tires the vette is actually fine in snow, and I only say this from first hand experience. With the Z06 just keep the RPM's low and it will behave fine. And as for putting it away for the winter- not gonna happen. I work my *** off for this car, and I am going to drive it every chance I get. For a good chunk of the winter theres no snow on the ground, and as stated in the post, I just wan't tires that are more suited to cold weather. I apologize for being cross, and I guess I should have expected a comment saying that, so sorry. I'm glad your concerned for my safety ( no sarcasm intended ), as am I, which is precisely why I wan't different tires for the cold.

In the doctor's defense, it is possible to drive a high torque sports car in the wet and even in the snow (No I wouldn't drive my Z06 in the snow either but he's an enthusiast...let him drive it where and when he wants!!)

C5 AND C6 cars are major snowplows. This is a pic of my car from a trip on a snowy interstate in early January 2000 which earned me the nickname Snowman. If you drive in deep snow long enough, it will complete pack around the motor, cut off airflow and make your car run hot. A trip to the carwash and some hot rinse water though will take care of it.

Sorry cannot help you on all weather tires. I wouldn't shell out hard earned money for a second set of tires and wheels for the odd chance of being caught out in cold weather or snow. Listen to your favorite weatherman and maybe take a taxi home that day if you need to.

Regards,

Doug (aka Snowman)

Dr Rotate I'm with you, drive your baby as often as possible. I work down town here in Dallas, so I take the train to work. Like in your anticipation, when I lived in Chicago, I found myself on the wrong end of numerous snow showers, and my C5 behaved just fine even with the run flats. I think the new Good Year's are more than capable for your every day use!

Hey, I drove my Viper all winter in Chicago, as long as there was no snow on the ground. I sold it with 25,000 miles and people thought it was a misprint...........thinking 2500. I bought a C5(with EMTs) to use on the snow days and it never left me stranded. It did give me a few white-knuckle drives home, though!! I had 2 of the rarest cars to be seen on the roads in Chicago in the winter. I'll be in my Z whenever there is no snow and loving it!

Fortunately, I don't share rotate's problem, but no way I'd be driving my baby even if there were a chance of snow or icy conditions. I don't know what other vehicles you have, but I'd use an AWD as my daily Winter driver. Waiting until driving conditions are more favorable will just make you enjoy the experience all the more. Just my 2 cents... Aloha

I think you will definitely need a different rear wheel. What does the C6 use for all weather, will the C6 rear wheel fit over the caliper? This may be a little difficult to do without changing the brakes.

Well Doc if a C6 rear wheel will clear your brakes this tire should fit.

It brings a smile to my face everytime I hear something like this. I once saw a 1999 Lamborghini Diablo with 41,000 miles ( this was last year, I think it was on ebay). There is nothing greater then the guys ( and gals) that actually drive their super/sports cars.

Those would work, but the problem is they can only be mounted on a rim with a maximum width of 9.5 inches. the rear c6's are Ten inches ( the Z06 are 12). I think I am going to try some combination of Blizzaks for the wheels, because they have a few tires that can make the ten inches. However if I can get the Front Z06 rims on the back of it, then these could work ( the front Z06 wheels are 9.5 inches). If nothing else, if I find out I can put C6 wheels on the Z (probably the only person in existance that has ever wanted to do this) then I think I'll go wither the Eagle F1 EMT's. Thanks for your help. Maybe me best bet is to contact a wheel and tire specialist for the Vette. Maybe one of the forum wheel venders would know what to do?

As a fellow New yorker, its not practical to have a vette w/o a 2nd car...i just picked up a Honda Ridgeline which turns out to be pretty cool...huge though, I'm still trying to get use to parking it..

Being a doctor, you would think you could have figured this out ...Im only 23...and I'm just a mortgage broker...lol..................jk, man

For those bad days I have my pick: Believe it or not my best car in the snow is my sons Mazda RX-8 ( 6-speed GT). We put Blizzaks mounted on 17 inch wheels on for the winter, and its better than any other car I've ever driven in the snow, including some all wheel drivers. My wife has a 2005 Mercedes SLK-350, which I just put some ultra high preformance all-weather tires on, and I did the same thing with my daughters 05 Mercedes CLK-320. The stock Mercedes tires were the worst I have ever driven in snow. I couldn't even get down a level street, so they had to be changed. My other son is in Florida with the 04 Maxima, so he doesen't have to worry, that lucky son of a... We also have a 05 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT for the college trips. Not trying to brag by any means, just making a point that I like all my cars to be winter ready! One of the main reasons I wan't different rubber on the Z06 for the winter, is not so much snow, but just the cold weather. As you all know the stock rubber is not a friend of cold.

Three months! It's going to be hard enough going a single day without driving the Z06. Thats why I need these tires!!

Thanks for taking an interest . I'm a cardiologist (non-invasive). I practice right next to Syosset Hospital (the big office building).
