There is a post on ls1tech with some numbers, no mention of the block cracking but who knows.

We had a dyno issue which caused some problems with the car. We're fixing them both right now, and will have final numbers soon.

This is before the dyno broke while spraying the 350 shot... Definitely would have made over 900 rwhp on the Dynojet. Picked up 46 hp on motor alone from the old setup...

Is their a weakness in the factory block?? We would like to know before turbos go on a customers car. We are shooting for 1000+rwhp. PM me if possible.

Thanks

sounds like there is, which I'm surprised about, read above. Viper guys have been running 900+ rwhp on their stock blocks since the late 90s, what gives? must be a fluke as far the "dyno locking up" and causing issues with the car, never have heard of that happening......(no flame).

Every block has a limitation and I'm glad Chuck is digging into these engines already. If their is one I would like to know what needs to be looked at before this project is completed. If a C5R block is needed then I would like to know as well, so we can get one coming.

It's really hard to hear the motor and it's damned annoying.

It does look and sound mean!

You should be fine, especially with a turbo where it's not as hard on the parts (I assume you're building a stronger rotating assembly for it). I don't have the motor out of this car yet, so I couldn't tell you if the block is damaged, but judging by the tests we've performed, it looks like it just took out a few pistons.

Supra's also have very strong blocks from the factory. Unfortunately Gen III GM's are not so blessed. However the LS7 is one of the stronger versions since the LSx first came out...

I'd like you to watch this video so you can see what actually happened, and I'll try my best to explain it all. In the video you will hear the car rev up real fast when the second stage of nitrous comes on... That is the point where the dyno "went out". So during this time, all the nitrous was getting sprayed into the intake manifold, but not all of it was being used due to the speed in which the motor was accelerating.... then the dyno decided to load up. Now all that unused nitrous has to go somewhere. due to fuel puddling and everything that can happen in a state like this (fuel is obviously heavier than N20), the mixture going into some of the cylinders was not ideal, thus causing a few cylinders to run too lean. That's when you can see pieces of pistons and spark plugs start coming out of the exhaust.

So, the new pistons will be here middle of next week, then we're going to have them coated, and probably have the car put back together end of the following week. That's when we'll be posting up those 900+ rwhp numbers So until then, stay tuned.

When I was watching the first video, I remember what it was like with my first C5 at ARE when we were doing a 427 ironblock stroker with nitrous. The whole world was watching.

Then I watched the latest video and really feel for you guys. Stay the course. This is just a blip on the screen on the way to greatness.

Thanks for posting the latest video. I feel for you guys. But when paveing the new road there will be issues. Your not alone, have heard of a few other LS7s not taking well to power adders. Good luck with the new setup. Cant wait to see it go!

We appreciate everybody pitching in the supportive words. I've got some great guys working here who have built plenty of fast cars in their time. So this is just another walk in the park. The guy who built this car specifically also built the fastest LS1 in the world on a "stock suspension, true 10.5" platform. It's gone 7.9x's in the 1/4 mile at almost 180 mph. We also hold the fastest LT1 in the world record (8.08 @ 176) Read about it here Watch the video here, and fastest stock shortblock LS1 in the world (9.64 @ 142). Video

Something I learned from a great mentor was this little phrase I like to use when times like this arise... "The teams winning the most races are the ones standing on the biggest pile of blown up parts". hehe

Ok, I'm stepping off my high horse before someone kicks me down! You all have a good night!
