nope,it not a joke buddy! I had some one at my work place mention some new corvette with 600+ hp. Then my wife mentioned to me that someone at her workplace mention a new vette comming out with 1000 HP. Nether of us responded to these comments as we just don't know the facts. Well after asking on the corrvette forum, I have now found out they will be making a ZR1 with 600+ HP in 2009. So with that said the guy at my workplace was correct and the guy at my wifes workplace had no clue what he was talking about. My wife and myself both knew the 07 Z06 had 505HP but did not know the #'s on the new ones.

misleading...well maybe. But the highest horsepower modern day factory production vette that I knew was the Z06. I had no idea till I started asking Questions here that there would be a future ZR1. I guess some of us pay more attention to the future of these vettes than others.

I have a very good feeling that the Z06 will get a little bump in HP for the 2009 model, I am guessing 20-25 more, we shall see.

How long do you guy's think the horse power race will continue?
There sure has been allot of talk on the tube and in Auto Week about manufacturing more Green cars lately.
I think we need to enjoy the HP race while we can.

On the other hand, if the horsepower wars were to stop this instant, think of how sought after our cars would become.

People think that jumping from 1.50 a gallon to 3.00 a gallon over the past couple of years is bad. It's had a minimal affect so far. In the 70's, gas jumped from .25 to 1.25 almost overnight. That's like going from 3.00 today to $15 on Monday. If it did that again, I guarandamnteeya, it will have a similar affect again like it did in the 70's. Your SUV's will become almost worthless, just like muscle cars did. If and when fuel became relatively cheap again, the vehicles of old would be popular again, just like muscle cars.
That's part of what makes muscle cars so valuable today. So many of them were crushed in the 70's because nobody wanted them, there just aren't that many that made it. Stupid little 6 cylinder Mustangs are fairly rare, even though they made millions of them. Sure, the high power gas guzzlers may be worth more in the future, IF you can get fuel for them. We may have AWD 1,000 hp electric cars by then.
