2008 sound insulation
I was at the detroit show yesterday and someone said that the 2008 Z06 has added sound deadening material over and above the 2006 and 2007 to reduce tire noise. Does anyone know if this is correct info?

I don't have any hard proof on this, but I've heard various rumors of the sort... most of them say something like the 2LZ package includes it. Only real comparison I have is my memory from when I test drove a 2006 vs the 2008 I bought, and my 2LZ '08 "seemed" to have less tire noise. Tire noise in my '08 is not offensive on to me, or anyone who has rode in it, but I will probably switch to the Michelin PS2's when they come available in our size which should help traction & reduce noise.

• Steering Wheel mounted radio controls
• Enhanced Acoustic Package
• Cargo Net in rear compartment
• Luggage Shade in rear compartment
• Memory Package
• Heated seats, driver and passenger sides
• Universal Home Remote
• Power Telescoping Steering Column

The enhanced acoustic package was added to the 2LZ in 2007. A long thin plastic bag full of stuffing is placed ahead of each rear wheel well liner. At the NCM Bash last April all the 2008 changes were announced but there was no mention of further sound deadener changes from 2007.
When you add the insulators to a 2006 the difference is pretty hard to notice. Most Z06 road noise is caused by textures in some pavement transmitted by the hard EMT tires. And tire noise increases as miles increase. A 2006 Z with new EMTs installed would probably be quieter than a 2007 or 2008 with 10K on it's EMTs.
BTW, when the 2006 Z06 was introduced the rear cargo area carpet was said to have a thinner layer of jute backing, for reduced weight. Does anybody know if this is still the case or if at some point the heavier padding of the coupe was added to the 2LT ?

I know that when we had the 3LZ weight thread a couple weeks ago we got a few folks that posted their GVWR numbers.
Based on that it appears as though even in 1LZ trim the Z06 has gained some weight since '06. I don't know exactly what that was from but sound deadening is a good bet.
