Default 2008 Z-06 Shifting Problem

Three times now my 2008 Z-06 has acted very strangely when I tried to shift from 1st to 2nd. After the shifter comes out of first, it just won't move anywhere--not into 2nd, not back to 1st. It feels like its simply stuck in the neutral position. Eventually, each time, I finally have been able to move it back into 1st or into 2nd. Don't have any idea what I did to make that happen, as I was a bit frantically just trying to get the shift lever to move somewhere (not forcing it, mind you). The vette has only about 250 miles on it. I've not experienced this with any of the other vettes I've owned. It doesn't feel like the CAGS is kicking in (I've had two other C6s, so I know what that feels like). Any ideas/suggestions?

I've had the EXACT same thing happen.

Pay attention to the dash and I think you'll find that this happens when CAGS is active.

With 300 miles on the odo (was driving back from bowling green after picking up the car), I was making a left turn and as I was trying to shift into second, the shifter got stuck.

It was late at night so there weren't any cars, but I was blocking the left lane.

A couple of cars came by and I saw these puzzled looks on people faces "WTF is he doing in the middle of a road in that car "

The trick - watch for cags and dont shift when the light is on!

I'm also getting a CAGS defeat... sometime soon.

If it's not CAGS, does it happen at the same time CAGS would? Low speed shifts? If it is the CAGS, just shift to 3rd. It'll accept 3rd immediately and once you do it a few times it will come natural.

I used to have the same problem - it is the CAGS - just shift above 20 mph or higher throttle input.

Drive it, don't baby it, and you'll be fine!

Had skip shift for over 10 years now. Easy to defeat with a simple
plug in resister, or you can take it out with a tune, or drive it!

Its the cags, I just crawled up under my car Saturday and installed the cags delete plug. Now I never have to think about it intervening again. Once less thing to worry about, I drove the car for 2000 miles with "cags anxiety".

with your selection of a CAGS defeat. Either that or just have it programmed out if thats an option. Makes the car a lot more enjoyable to drive.

Default Thanks to All

Want to thank everyone who responded to my plea for help. If/when it happens again, I will check to see if the CAGS light is on. If it is, I'll install the CAGS eliminator. If not, then...guess it's something else. Also will try shift to 3rd.

Thanks again!!

I have looked in the owners manual and there is is no mention of CAGS for the '08 Z06. I asked my dealer and they don't know if the cars are so equiped.
Yes, my C4 and C5 had them. I have yet to see any proof my '08 Z has CAGS.
SO????

I have a 08 and it DOES have CAGS. If you are not looking at the dash you probably might be confused as to what is happening. Go for the 2200 ohm resistor in the female part of the CAGS connector and be done with it.

Ron is right -- 2008 Z06 HAS CAGS. Just watch the light out of the corner of your eye -- keep accelerating until the light goes out -- then shift where you want.

SAME thing happened to me today when I was stuck in traffic. I saw the cags light on, tried to abort the shift, but too late, got stuck. Like everyone else here said, nothing to worry about... Lose the skip shift and you'll be fine.

Just drive the car like a Corvette and don't shift at 18 mph.

On my 08 LS3, I drove it for quite a while before CAGS ever kicked in. I think they programmed it to be less intrusive on the '08s. But it did finally kick in, and I put in a CAGS defeat. Once is one too many times for me.

Default Happened Again the Morning

The shifter level got stuck again when shifting out of 1st again this morning when turning into the parking lot at work. I DID notice that the CAGS light came on. Problem was that the shifter gets STUCK. It won't move to fourth gear. It won't move anywhere. It just stays stuck in, apparently, neutral. Wouldn't move to second, third, or fourth. Won't let me move it right or left. Just stuck. Is that normal for CAGS? I thought CAGS was supposed to direct the stick into fourth. I tried increasing RPMs, clutching again. It finally freed itself (as I rolled slowly forward) after an eternity (about 5 seconds). What's going on here??????
