Default Drag Radial Gurus!!!!

I'd like to solicite opinions/suggestions for selecting the right drag radial for my application and needs. Please give me your feedback!

I'm having traction problems with my 08 Z, which isnt a bad thing. I have a cam/headers/intake setup making about 538/494 and my oem goodyears have 7k, zero traction . I do not do HPDE events but I do like to frequent the dragstrip. Most of my driving will be on around town, and very little highway traveling. I do not drive my Z everyday, and never in the rain unless I run into an unexpected shower. I want a sticky tire that will hold my power level but not rip out my drivetrain. I can accept the fact that I will eventually have to upgrade my stock clutch, which is expected at my power level and interest in the drag strip.

I recently purchased a rear set of 18x10.5 C6Z06 replicas from House of Wheels. I didnt want to buy a full set of wheels, very happy with my oem comp grey, although I was dissappointed that there isnt a 19inch DR on the market.

Here are the DR's that I am considering...

BFG 315/30-18

the BFG is my first choice, however they are currently on backorder for a minimum of 6-8 weeks. I have heard that these are very sticky tires but have very little tread life, which isnt a huge concern for me. I really need a tire asap, cant wait 6-8weeks for delivery.

Nitto 335/30-18

I have heard nittos are not as sticky as the bfg's but have a longer tread life. ALSO, what do you guys think about a 335 on a 10.5 wheel? too big of a tire?

next up is the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial in a 315/30-18

I have not heard anything about these tires, but the sizing is good and they look pretty sticky. as of right now, this is the tire I am leaning towards.

OK folks, please let me know what you think! I am ready to buy tires asap, tired of not being able to drive my z to its limits. THANKS!

the MT is a better strip tire where the BFG is a better all around street/strip tire. the BFG will last 2-3x as long as the MT. but the MT has much better grip on the strip. the BFG's tend to squirm a little more at highway speeds but both can be comfortably driven at all times, as daily tires you are just not going to get that much life out of them as you would on a regular street tire. and Nitto DR, why bother? they suck as a strip tire, but they do make for a decently sticky street tire. but they will spin at the track. my opinion is that the MT are the best street/strip tore you can get if you are willing to deal with the short life span of the tire.

thanks for your help! I would prefer to get a set of the bfg's, but they are on backorder, both tirerack and discount tire are guessing a minimum of 6-8 weeks. I really need tires today, so I'm considering the MT's. I'm assuming the tread life cant be any worse than the oem gy's, which lasted 7k.

Does anyone else have any input? Thanks!

Also, if I go with the MT's, will I be ok with my oem GY's on the front (everyday/normal driving)?

If you are goin with the MT Et Street Radial they will be fine with the factory fronts. If you go with the ET Street Slick (Bias) the car will be squirrely at high end. Not recommended at all. Stick with the drag radial. I prefer the MT also over the other two. I had BFG on my last car and they werent bad at all just not as sticky at the track as the MT. Nitto decent for the street but not too great at the track at all. The compound seems harder. Go with the MT you wont be disappointed. Just tread life will be short.

thanks! the bfg's are on backorder for a minimum of 6-8 weeks, so I'm gonna go with MT ET Street Drag Radials, 315/30-18's. I'm going to use them as my normal driving tire, not going to be used strickly for drag racing. I dont think I'll be able to hook on the street with anything but a drag radial.

both BFG's and Mickey Thompson drag radials are on backorder !!!

It seems that Nitto's are the only thing available right now, but I'm not happy with the size options....

what do you guys think about a 305/35-18 in a 18x10.5 wheels? will the 335/30-18 be too wide for a 10.5 wheel? Please help! Thanks!

I was running the BFG 305 18"...they work good and surprising the best DR I found. As for nittos everyone I've seen try them say they suck. but for sure better than factory goodyears.

I have run all of these and the M&H. The only one I haven't had is the MT because it is too small for my wheels....

The M&H wins hands down!

My results...

Stock tires 1.79 60'
BFG's 1.75 60'
Nittos 1.76 60'
M&H 1.42 60'

and in case you didn't know, the M&H tires have gone down the track faster and quicker than ANY other Drag Radial on a C6 PERIOD!

Just my .02

Oh, I forgot to add! BFG's lasted me maybe 500 miles, Nittos were still strong after 1000 miles and the M&H's last around 700 miles but got a LOT more track time!

I wouldn't take the BFG Drag Radials if they gave them to me free!

Good to see the M&Hs working for you... did you get a rock hard set of BFGs?

I had the BFg Drs on my C4 Zr1, stock rear end 1.40 60...and on my '40 Coupe 9" rear with LS7 power..1.37 60 foot...then went to goodyear slicks 1.27 60

i have Nitto 555R's on my car and love them. I have a head camed 416 and they hook just fine..once im out of first gear. If its hot out, they hook perfect...but with any DR, forget about driving in the rain, its like ice if there is any pooling

but for ultimate grip, its MT, then BFG...but Nittos look the best

+1 Nittos get a bad rap. If they could hook for me at the track ANYONE should be able to get them to work. They are great around town and last a while.

Austin, nice choice on the tires man, post pics asap!!

these MT drag radials are a lot wider than I thought. Lethal Performance told me that they are underrated, and they seem to measure about 1 inch shorter than the oem goodyears in width.

my c6z 18x10.5 replicas arrive this friday, and everything will be installed no later than saturday. I'll be sure to let you guys know my impressions/opinions.

I have had BFG's of different sizes on other cars and have loved them... my problem is with the 345's.... I liked the nittos, they just took a while to break in, I like the M&H's the best of the 3. I would have loved to try a M/T but they just weren't out or available every time I was ready for a DR. I would expect the M/T's to be just as good as the M&H's but only time will tell.
