[ZR1] ZR1 Vs Z06

When I had my LS3 coupe, I thought it would be awsome to own a Z06 but didn't think I wanted to spend the extra money. I feel the same way about the ZR1. I'd love to have one, but in this case I know it is more than I'll ever pay for a car. But I'd love to

Why don't you go for the full effect, get the glass window hood(with LS-9 decal, this is exactly the reason why late model corvettes depreciate so much, to many clones, cant tell the difference. I would never deface my 06 Z like that only mods will be power mods.

Not really flaming ZR-1's and have been on the track in two of them. Lot's of midrange torque, but the extra 200 lbs hanging over the nose, isn't good. Cool car, but not feeling the $40K premium. Probably another $5 million in engineering costs to get the weight out. Guess I still don't get it.

these are both world class automobiles. It is tough to argue with 638 hp and a full factory warranty though, but the $110k or so it takes to own one is a bit more than I want to spend....especially right now.

When cars start costing like houses, that's when I draw the line.
I don't buy this "collector car" argument. I think that GM will eventually make more of them and they will depreciate like the rest of the cars. A lot of people got burned thinking the 1990 ZR-1s were "collector cars". I would never pay over MSRP for any car. Bought my 08 Z06 for a nice discount.
Having said all that, if they weren't so overpriced and expensive, YOU BET I WOULD PREFER A ZR-1!!!
Horsepower is like money: There ain't no such thing as "too much"!!

Melting Slicks
I will buy one in about two years when all the kinks are worked out. I remember when Porsche came out with their Carbon brakes and they were defective and cracks developed. Porsche replaced some but it you tracked the car it was your 8k problem. With GM having ONSTAR and the ability to know where you have been and at what speeds you have been driving and being a first year GM product I will pass. Every first year GM product I have bought have been lemons and the only thing that has saved me was the California Lemon law on my 05C6 lemon, the rest I suffered through.

New Camaro went for a cool $300K at Barret Jackson. Not too shabby for a $30K car! That's a higher ratio than last years ZR1 selling for a million bucks!

I think that could be more or less accounted for by how GM is hurting financially. People think that the new camaro will not last because of this, therefore it is even more collectible. The Corvette will not die until GM dies though.

I would love to own a ZR1. But can hardly justify the expense of the one i've got (Z06). To make it worse, have any of you looked at trade in values for our beloved 06's? Cheaper to keep her!! But overall i am really excited about getting to take on a ZR1 some day.

With the discounts on new Z's (selling for 63-69k), and the markup on ZR1s, (selling for 125-150k) there is a real 2-to-1 difference in price between the two cars, making the Z look like a smart buy. The differnce in performance between these two cars appears to be much smaller than a Z and the base C6 a few years ago.

I'm think he is ref'ring to 08Z....The new Beast on the block is the ZR1

I had the chance to get a tour of the car without driving it, and had considerable time to view the ZR1 while waiting for the deal to be negotiated on my ZO6. No doubt it drives fantastic, particularly if it is better than the ZO6 which I also feel is a great automobile. IMO however, I just didn't like the looks of it by comparison to a ZO6 that was displayed next to it. I'm not knocking it as much to say that I really don't like the running boards and the front side intakes, both of which reminds me of a Firebird. I'd also hate to keep worrying about hitting the hard surface lower front spoiler.
I'm fortunate to be able to own just about any car, so I'm not coming from a wannabe standpoint. I actually was hoping it would knock my socks off, like I have to have it. But, after test driving the ZO6, I couldn't imagine needing anything more for excitement and enjoyment since I don't drag cars at the track.
I also figured the ZR1 may have a chance to be a collectable down the road, and I wanted a car to use and not worry about how many miles I was racking up like the Ferrari owners have to worry about.
