Default Oil Filter Question

Hi. I couldn't find UPF48R for 09 Z06, so I got Bosch 3334, which the book said was the equivalent. Is it OK for this time?

Should be fine, but, next time, contact Gene Culley at www.gmpartshouse.com and buy a 6-pack of Delco 48s.

Lots of folks use WIX Filters. Excellent product. Available through Amsoil dealers (yup, I'm one). Check it out.

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure the walls of the filter weren't too weak or something. By the way Walmart Mobil 1 is sure a lot cheaper! Thanks again.

The Walmarts around here are still out of Mobil 1 5W-30! And the price for Mobil 1 at Costco jumped to a hair under $6/qt. after the shortage.

As soon as Kelly Bundy is off the T.V. (7:00am) I'm going to our local Wallmart and get the two 5 quart jugs that I saw there. I figured that I could get them any ol' time. Guess not.

Thanks for the referrals all. I have them in stock!

||--Genuine GM Ultra Guard UPF48R Oil Filters--||

12626224 – UPF48R Ultra Guard Oil Filter - $8.62

These filters come in a case of 12. You can purchase just 1 filter if you’d like.
This is the AC Delco Gold Series oil filter that provides more filtering, etc.
Currently used on the 2009 Z06 and ZR1 engines. Can be used in place of PF48.

The UPF48 has thicker case and better filter element than the PF48. It is required for the 09 ZR1 and Z06. I just picked one up for mine today. No one in San Antonio had them in stock, Had to go to Houston to get one. It is a much heavier filter.

My 09 Z06 came from the factory with the PF48. The UPF48 is not required for the Z06, but won't hurt anything if used. Wix and Mobil1 are excellent filters and normally can be purchased from your local auto parts store, without screwing around special ordering and buying in bulk. I get my Wix and Mobil1 filters at O'Rielly's, Pep Boys, AutoZone and I'm sure there are plenty of other stores that carry them.

Quoted from GM Tech Link, July 2008
"GM Powertrain has released a new oil filter for the 2009 Corvette. The new design UPF48R oil filter will be used on the following applications:
-LS7 7.0-Z06
-LS9 6.2-ZR1
With the addition of piston cooling nozzles and other unique lubrication system requirements, a new design dual-rotor oil pump is required for the LS9 application. The new design oil pump produces greater volume and higher system pressure. To meet those requirements, a new oil filter with higher burst strength is required."
"The internal components are the same in both the UPF48R and PF48 oil filters. The UPF48R can be used in applications where the PF48 is specified."
"The UPF48R is required for the LS9 applications and is also used for the LS7 applications as both engines are built at GM's Performance Build Center."

If you cut open an AC filter and look at the paper, filter. The smaller filters have more paper, (filter), than the larger ones.
I have compared a 46 with the 61, Both have the same thread and sealing washer. The 61 is a couple of inches longer. The paper filter is not compressed as much in the 61 as in the 46.

Yes, they developed a new filter for the LS9 and since they build both the LS7 and the LS9 in the same shop, they have standardized on the same filter. Kinda stupid for them to mess with two different filters on such low volume engines. Pryor to the LS9 being introduced, the LS7 used the PF48 for three years without problems. The LS7 will not blow out a PF48. Notice that both the PF48 and the UPF48R share the same internal components, only the outer shell metal thickness is different between the two. I would rather have better internal components so I'll still stick with the Wix or Mobil1 filter on my LS7.
