[Z06] My ls7 engine fails ,, help
#41
Nope, my neighbor's '09 failed about three weeks ago. Stock, never on the track, 3K on the dial. He broke a piston, but the bearings were also shot and it was determined the he also had a faulty oil pump.

I hope this helps you out.
According to the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act [15 U.S.C 2302] [C] a vehicle manufacturer cannot legally void your WARRANTY UNLESS THEY CAN PROVE THAT THE AFTERMARKET PART CAUSED OR CONTRIBUTED TO THE VEHICLE FAILURE.

Does that mean they can't legally void a warranty b/c you've raced your car at a track event? I thought I read where people had their warranties revoked b/c they raced their car.....even without damage or a warranty claim.

Aftermarket headers, aftermarket intake, no tune. Gee, I wonder why your engine blew!! GM has every right to deny your warranty claim. If your car was stock, GM would have to back your claim.

Engine suddenly stops while driving then the low oil pressure alarm came after second start
we will ask the experts if it's from oil pump or the mods without a tune
Any idea guys?

Yeah, I'd like to hear an explanation how it COULDN'T be a result of the mods and no tune? If no one can give a logical explanation, can you understand why GM has the right to deny you? They're only obligated to back your claim if you can prove 100% that your mods didn't have anything to do with the engine blowing. Sorry, but doubt that's happening.

Does this include aftermarket calibration needed to correct the lean condition that can occur by installing headers?

a lean condition from no tune can cause pinging( detonation). this is like hitting your piston with a hammer. Piston and or valvetrain components can be damaged. This results in metal pieces in the oiling system causing oil pump failure.Only a teardown of engine can show wheather this was the case or not. ED k

ps: not saying it is right by anymean, but that's just how GM is...they'll void it, and if you drag them to court, well, maybe you'll win maybe you won't...you know the saying "it ain't illegal until you get caught"...this is very much like it...and I'm not happy with it either, I think its crap!

Detonation (also called "spark knock") is an erratic form of combustion that can cause head gasket failure as well as other engine damage. Detonation occurs when excessive heat and pressure in the combustion chamber cause the air/fuel mixture to autoignite. This produces multiple flame fronts within the combustion chamber instead of a single flame kernel. When these multiple flames collide, they do so with explosive force that produces a sudden rise in cylinder pressure accompanied by a sharp metallic pinging or knocking noise. The hammer-like shock waves created by detonation subject the head gasket, piston, rings, spark plug and rod bearings to severe overloading.
Mild or occasional detonation can occur in almost any engine and usually causes no harm. But prolonged or heavy detonation can be very damaging. So if you hear knocking or pinging when accelerating or lugging your engine, you probably have a detonation problem.

He's in Kuwait - I'm not sure Title 15 of the U.S.C. applies there if that's where the car was delivered.
