LS7 owners chime in, please
Happy Thanksgiving!
As for my Thanksgiving, it didn't start out too good. As I went to gather w/ the family for dinner. The Z06 developed a pretty bad knock in what we think is the right side head rocker arm assemibly, just from listening to it run.
The Z was running smooth and driving fine last night when I packed it.
Anyhoo, I made the call to the roadside assistance and the Z is now on it's way to the dealership for an assessment and repair.
Any of the other LS7 owners experienced anything similar to this w/ their LS7's???
Thanks in advance,
Don

2009 Z06 with approx. 5,400 miles and no problems yet, "knock on wood!" Any mods to the vette? If not, warranty will take care of any problems. Maybe some bad gas (not the chili kind )? When was the last time you filled up?

No miss shifts(or WOT/drag strip runs) or anything else that I can think of.
I went over everything yesterday to see if, I could have done something to have cuzed this and there is nothing that I can think of right off hand.
No bend push rods, cuzed by the miss shifts.
I can't think of anything that would have cuzed the 7.0L to go from running as smooth as it was the night before to acting like it was yesterday. There's no way you/I could have babied the Z06 more thru the break-in period!
The 'skip shift eliminator' is the only mod to date!
Thanks for all of the replies!

First I noticed a big puff of white smoke at start up, then I noticed a knocking/clunking after it warmed up. Tracked it down to the passenger firewall, so I went to the rear of the right valve cover. The plastic tubing for the PCV system going to the oil tank was rattling and making contact with the firewall. Putting 2 and 2 together I concluded I had an oil issue. Then it dawned on me, I had recently checked the oil and added 1-1/2 qts. Whipped out the owners manual and sure enough "you're supposed to check the oil hot" Verified it was over full when hot, removed the extra and we're good now.
Hope your knock is as simple as this.

Why yes, a number of people have. See this sticky at the top of the forum:

Best of luck with your car. You were SMART to pull over and call the flatbed instead of trying to "nurse her home". You may just have saved your engine.

Just got the word back from the dealership. They have determined it's a broken rocker arm @ this point. The parts are on order from the Charlotte factory, should be here(in Chattanooga, Tn) Monday(Tuesday @ the latest). You can just barely see the push rod in the one pix. But the Gm tech said, it showed no sign of damage. Plus, looking back thru the achives of the OBDII(I suppose) he also, told mr the rocker arm broke while the engine was only turning @ 900RPM(this is no misprint, 9 hundred RPM).
As you can see by the pix above, some(or alot really) of the needle bearings are missing.
Build Date: 03/08
Thanks again,
Don

The rocker arm problem was more prevalent on the 06 and 07 models. Not good to hear they still happen on 08s (I have one). Glad you didn't lose a motor.

After having talked to the Technician @ the dealership. I'd have to agree w/ him, on the defective rocker arm. Now that I also, know the rocker arm gave it up w/ the engine only turning 900 RPM's.
Thanks again,
Don

Mt. View took over Newton, I had my C5 Z at Newton's several times for various work, and they had a good tech at that time. Matter of fact, I had Kook's headers put on my C5 at Newton.
With my C6 Z, haven't had any problems so far. My build date is May 2007, with a engine build date of April 2007.
I'm sure it will work out ok.

Having grown up in Choo-Choo and lived here til the job situation took me to 1st Savannah and on to Lake Charles, La so far over the past 10yrs. I've had several issues taken care of over @ Newton Chevrolet. Matter a fact, that is where I wanted the Vette taken. Then, that's when I find out Newton had been taken over by Mt. View.
Heck since, I was actually in Jasper w/ the family. When the call to On-Star went out for the roadside assistance. They 1st wanted to take the Z06 to Gentry Chevrolet and w/ it being Thanksgiving Day. There would have been no one @ the Dealership to take procession of the Vette. Which the rollback driver was not about to drop the Vette off and just leave it til the next day. That's when we were able to convince On-Star to bring it back to town and store it(in the toe yard) til Mt. View opened the next day.
