That is a massive understatement. This whole thing has really tested my faith in GM and more importantly the best car I've owned in my life. I'm scared to drive it at more than a snails pace without fear of it going out again.

Hopefully its just the oil pressure sensor behind the valley cover. Its very easy to break and throws out erratic readings like that.

When GM install's a new motor:

1. Do you get the newer Dry Sump?
2. What kind of warranty does GM give on the new motor?
3. Is the motor a brand new 2010 built or an older "off the shelf" built whenever and sitting in a crate some place motor?

What "fixes" are there for 2009? I own a 2009 and am wondering how my engine is different from the 2006-2008 engines.

The only "fix" for 2009 is the revised oil tank.

I can't speak for other people. I was told my engine was not a 2010. Actually, they didn't really know but they assumed it was a surplus motor. The warranty does reset to zero. Though I'm assuming if something else fails besides the motor that it would not be under the same arrangement.

Anyway, dealer could not duplicate the problem so I hope everything is fine.

Fragile? I don't even know what that means. Exercise warm-up procedure, maintain it like it should, and listen to when it's telling you something is amiss, and you'll get years - if not decades - of enjoyment out of this engine. If you mod it, realize that it stands a great chance of an abbreviated life. That's life in the world of modified high performance engines/cars - not "if" it will break, but rather "when".

I replaced my 06 oil pump with an 09. Took both apart. No difference except for the part number. None looking right at both. In fact, the rotors were flipped over in the 09. Interesting. Ported the new one and got a Lingenfelter sump tank.

What does that mean "the rotors were flipped over". Would that increase the oil pressure??

I expect lots. The LT5 was a hand-built high performance engine. It's reliable, came with a warranty and made more power than any previous N/A production engine GM had ever produced. And yes, it passed strict emissions standards. The only difference is it was/is bullet proof... So yes, I expect allot of my LS7...

Based on my experience:

1. No, the oil tank (the only part that is different between '06-'08 and '09) is not considered part of the motor.
2. My warranty remained in place (my '06 was a CPO so it picked up where is left off with the remainer of the 5yr/100K miles).
3. My new motor was an '09 build and replaced in Apr '09.

This is off-topic, but...I saw a few former Marine Recon guys fail the Army airborne course. Ole' Marine Sergeant Airborne was not pleased. On that very day, I witnessed a massacre unfold

The LS6 had equally severe problems, in the begining anyway. Some of the guys building these must be coming in hung over, LOL.

Could you have paid the difference and had the newer/larger sump installed and still retained what warranty was left?

If you're asking if I could have paid the dealer to install the '09 tank (sumps are the same), probably could have but was not sure if the warranty would have remained in effect since it's not stock for '06. So I just let them do the R&R on the engine, repair the colateral damage, and was done with it. It was cheaper to replace my stock oil tank with the '09 tank myself anyway, easy job.
