Default Katech tests Halltech's new intake systems on the engine dyno

We recently got a chance to test Halltech's new air intake systems on the engine dyno. We performed 3 sweep tests per intake allowing the temperatures to equalize between runs. I chose the best run for each intake and put them in the graph below. The second graph is the same thing, just on a different scale so you can see the differences in the intakes better. When dealing with these slight variations, it's difficult differentiate. For example, the difference between the new plastic Killer Bee and the carbon fiber was 1hp. Well below a normal dyno variance. One horsepower is .1%. I call that a virtual tie.

C2-8843 (red) - Stock LS7 airbox
C2-8847 (green) - Original Halltech Killer Bee (plastic)
C2-8850 (blue) - Halltech Killer Bee II Carbon Fiber (112mm)
C2-8855 (black) - Halltech Killer Bee II Plastic

The test subject was the latest 2010 Street Attack LS7 with:
Torquer LS7 camshaft
11:1 compression
WCCH ported heads
FAST LSXR 102mm intake
Nick Williams throttle body
ARE stage 3 dry sump system

I welcome any intake manufacturer to send me their system and we will do the same test free of charge.

Thanks for the Test Results!

Which intake do you run on your Z06?

Have a good day Jason!

I was running the gen 1 Halltech Killer Bee carbon Fiber and I'm switching it to the new Halltech Killer Bee Carbon Fiber 112.

Two things:

1. The CF is a larger intake than the KB 2?

2. So that rise in power at the very end of the hp curve (6100-6500) is the 1hp variance that you are dismissing as a "virtual tie?" Or are you talking just about the peak hp figures? Because that looks like a significant, when comparing intakes anyways, gain that helps keep that power-curve ballooned, not dropping.

1. yes
2. Look at the scale. This is zoomed in so we can see 1hp differences. It's not that significant.

So on a 600hp motor the KB2 makes about 3-4hp more then the KB1?

Yes, on a tuned engine the direct filter vs. filter difference is about 3hp. However, on a bone stock engine with no tuning, the differences between a stock filter and the new KB2 will likely be greater. More to come on that later.

We're running mechanical on the dyno. Nick Williams has some tips. I'm sure if you email him he'll walk you through it.

Not impressive for the money one would spend on the change and potential warranty issues.
