Not sure what model year your car is, but I don't think it's necessary in '07 and up. I keep mine on a battery tender. If you drive it regularly, and it goes dead, the battery might need to be replaced.

I've alway's parked my 06' in 1st and never had a problem. Usually if sitting more than a couple week's I'll put the CTEK 3300 on it, but has gone more than a month a few time's. Still has the original Delco, so probably pushin' it.

All of the C6 Corvette Owner's Manuals from 2005 to 2010 tell you to place a manual transmission in reverse after stopping the engine.
I have a 2007 Z06 and I always leave mine in 1st gear and have never had a problem.
knight1975, You should update your profile because it states that you have a black 2001

The requirement to park in reverse to avoid battery drain applied to the 2005 model year only. From 2006 on, whether you parked in reverse or not has no effect on your battery.
It is always safest to park manual cars in a low gear, either 1st or reverse to ensure they don't accidently roll. Its been that way since way before I started driving in the '60's, hence the recommendation in the Owner's Manual.

I put it in whatever gear will hold the car should it roll. I was taught that when I first started driving.
Guess I've been lucky with my 07 as I still have the OEM battery BG installed on 21/12/06 and it has NEVER failed me.

If you have mild to wild you need to have the system in the "off" position when you park whether you put it in reverse or first.

Put it in reverese when you park it. Someone else posted a thread and on the 2010 z06's there is a tag on the shifter that says to place the car in reverse.

The reason GM wants a newer car in reverse is safety, there is more rolling restience with that gear!
Best bet they have a lot of tags left from the 05 run and are just putting them on.

Me too. The car has sat for as much as 2 months during the winter and started right up--although I realize this is not typical battery performance compared to most owners.

There was a TSB issued by GM awhile back re: battery drain and the passenger door lock sensor.

Hate to join the fray but, after having a "traction control system inorpeable" warning come up (shutting down the car and then restarting cleared the message and traction control worked) the dealer (trust 'em? - only so far) told me that the cars computer 'wanted' to see the car in Reverse when it was shut down.
Weird to me but haven't had the message since. (?)

I was in my 2010 ZO6 before it went through the Dealer PDI and I saw no Tag on The shifter. My '06 Z did have issues with the battery dying if you didn't drive it for a couple of weeks. Putting it in Reverse made no difference. The only thing that helps is a battery tender. Funny thing is I've got a 2002 Trans Am collector edition, that thing can sit for 6 months and still start.

I learned very quickly with my '05 to put it in reverse. Since then, the habit has stuck. No problems with my '08 Z06 (knocks on wood).

Like I said above, I always leave mine in first gear when it is parked. When I start the engine I push in the clutch, pop it into neutral, start the car, release the clutch and let it idle a while to warm up
Unless your Corvette is a 2005 then you can leave it in any gear you want when it is parked
