New Z06 Owner My Journey Chicago to Atlanta and Back
Well, I sold my C5 (heads/cam) last Saturday and have been looking for a used C6Z for some time now ever since I decided to sell the C5. I flew in to Atlanta tonight, and will be meeting the seller here tomorrow to sign papers and do the deal!
Once everything is signed and done I will be driving back to Chicago tomorrow in my new toy
I am really pumped up (hence being on the forum at 1am)
I will try and post pics up tomorrow or updates when/if I take a break from the 12hr drive back to Chicago
Car is a Black/Black 2007 2LZ. 12,000mi on her, bone stock The seller was nice enough to drive it here from New Orleans (logistics with banks and crap ATL ended up being the best place to meet)
Only planned mods at this point are some minor interior pieces.. performance-wise she will stay stock for at least a year, maybe more.
Some folks think I am crazy for doing this, but I figure what a better way to get to know the car than a nice long drive. Plus I ended up saving quite a bit going private seller, and I also saved quite a bit on Dealer Sales Tax in IL.. its 7.75% vs private party sell = about 1500
Can't wait for tomorrow morning!! Ok, gotta try and get some rest now

Congratulations! Hope you have a safe and fun trip
Last year my wife and I flew from Dallas to Cincinnati to purchase a 2006 Mercedes SLK55 AMG and drove it back: Click here for the post.
We had a great time and she really enjoys her new car. I even get to drive it once in a while

Congrats on the purchase and enjoy the trip. I flew to Wisconsin when I purchased my old LS3 Coupe and drove her all the way back to Atlanta. Its a nice way to get situated with your new car

Congrats on your new toy. I did the same thing only a few weeks ago ... only a bit shorter of a trip (Charlotte, NC to Kingsport, TN). I thouroughly enjoyed the time driving home. Have a safe (ticket-free) drive back to Chicago.

Congrats Frank! It didn't take you long to get back in a vette. Enjoy the ride and the scenery on your way back, maybe you can stop at the vette museum and snap some pics of the new ride in front of it while on your way. I'll probably see you and the new beast at the next Chi Crew lunch.

CONGRATS, and it sound way to familar! I just sold my C5 and also purchased a 2007 Z06 atomic orange with 1,555 miles from a dealer in Atlanta! I left Friday the 2nd and drove from Peoria, IL all the way straight through. Put the car in the hauler and drove straight through back! NO SLEEP FOR over 24 hours.. I also had the feeling of a kid on Christmas eve and Christmas day. It was a solid 12 hour drive to Peoria so I know you can make it back to Chi-Town in 14 1/2 hours... BE SAFE! Enjoy.. and Hit me up sometime, I am always in Chicago we should meet, I would love to check out your new ride.

Congrats, you're gonna love it.
Just one thing for the drive back.
Be damned careful passing through IN on the Interstate. You'll think you're all alone for as far as the eye can see front and back, but in fact there's always a chance an IN State cop in a light plane could be watching because I'm told fast cars of any stripe often seek out these long apparenty empty stretches of highway, so that's what these guys are looking for.
When I'd lived in Evansville I'd actually met a guy (w/ a Pewter C5) who got himself tagged at 120+MPH by air. He'd thought he was all alone with nothing but corn fields for miles. Felt safe opening it up; and, that he got away with something -- until he approached state cops waving him over some 30 minutes later. Naturally he'd a mandatory court appearence.
Never forgo that guy's experience, profiting by his mistake.

Have fun Frank! I did the same thing about this time last summer when I flew to Des Moines, IA drove a little over a 1000 miles back to West Texas. The car had 3600 miles on it and was perfect, and still is. What a great time and great way to learn your car.

I'm having my '08 delivered...but after reading your post I wish I could enjoy it cross-country just as you are! Then again, I have 21k miles on it already, wish I only had 12k like you!!
