Default z06 carbon heavier than my Z?

Just seen in a magazine that the z06 carbon weighs over 3200 lbs. pretty sure the curb weight of my 06' Z is 3160. Someone please correct me haha.

well i think some 06's without nav were the originally listed 3130 weight ud see advertised in magazines but as the 07's 08's and on came out they slowly started getting heavier with sound deading materials and offcourse the Navigation adds weight as well..Some magazines have listed the Newer Z06's at like 3180 or like 3205...close...
My nav 2lz 08 z06 weighed at 3200 with a full talk of gas without me in ..

Many make the incorrect assumption that the Z06 Carbon is a lighter version of the Z06.

The 2006 Z06 is the lightest of all of the C6 models.

Curb weights are the weights of base non optioned models with all fluids topped off, so talk of NAV and other options is insignificant.

When a manufacturer speaks of curb weights, these weights are for base non optioned models only.

Thus the listed curb weight for a Z06 would be for a 1LZ version of the car with only standard equipment.

I don't trust what magazines post... put both cars with full tanks of gas on a scale and see what they weigh - that is the only real way to see which is lighter. I'm sure they are within 100 lbs of each other. No real significant performance gain from weight savings IMHO.

Alot of folks would disagree about 100 lbs being insignificant.

The Carbon Z06 uses a CF roof and halo...probably only shedding a couple pounds but people swear it will make a considerable difference in handling and balance......imo, the other added weight over the years makes use of CF roof/halo a wash in the grand scheme of things.

To the OP, GM decided to go more for more refinement in all models including Z06 as the years have gone by. So yes, the 2006 was the lightest and raw of all Z06's produced thus far....I don't see GM offering a all out racer Z06/ZR1 (stripped of radio/door panels replaced by CF/no sound deadening/etc) sort of like what Ferrari does with it's scuderia (sp?) versions of the F430.

IMO, this is why the Z06 Carbon irks me in ways......how can it offer more in the way of CF, yet be the heaviest and be fully loaded with bose/NAV etc? It's a "confused" vette that doesn't know if it should go all out and be light as possible (as it's name implies) or offer more options and be a better GT cruiser.......

Another missed chance for GM to create a really unique car in limited numbers that would become a favorite for weekend racers.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...How much weight could the NAV system possible add??? My ride has the NAV...so if I took a DUMP... would we be even??? The truth of the matter is...all Z-06 Corvettes have a very respectable Horse Power to weight ratio no matter what you compare them too. In addition to the high volumemetric efficienct naturally aspirated engine, and the co-efficient drag of 0.29...explains why we can run 80MPH all day and knock down 27MPG or better. My thoughts are...enjoy the ride no matter what the temp/wind speed/or time of the day it is.

That's the Cd for a coupe. The Cd for a Z06 is .31, but everything else you said is right on. 505 horsepower and great fuel economy...what a combination.

I agree with Silver05GTO, they need to do a gutted out Z06 for the track, that would be pretty damn fast.

My 1963 Z06 weighs 3050 lbs with the incredibly heavy stock finned drum brakes. I am amazed that the new C5 and C6 Z06s are as light as they are and still meet the safety regulations of 2010.

I'd say buy it and gut it, if the weigh of the car is that important, rip out the Nav. , the passenger seat, the door panels, the glove box, the AC, carpeting, the insulation and put in a pair of carbon race seats and there you have it. But I bet most of us like the creature comforts for just driving around.
The solution to weight reduction is easy, living with it is a different question. Everyone wants a skinny girlfriend until she throw up on you on a daily basis, because shes Bulimic...then it's not so much fun then.

Removing the interior carpet saves 35-40 lbs. Would the car still be street driveable?

I love my Z they way it is, with its nav etc. I just thought putting more carbon on the car would cut weight more than that.

Ripping out everything defeats the purpose of the "regular" C6 Z06.....which is what GM has been building since 2006. The "Carbon Z06" in limited quantities should be a no-frills racer imo......put all the CF GM possibly can into it while gutting it as let's say Ferrari does.

I read a comparison with one of these gutted Ferrari's.......not once did C&D seem to really care the car had no radio and any sound insulation....the driving expirience is what this F430 was all about. If you want a more luxury F430 they built those, but the scuderia F430was all buisness.

I'm just bored with GM's C6 special editions that aren't really special. Too many C6's with decal packages, every year same thing repackaged with different decals. It be nice to see something unique and truely limited these days when the C6 is going through a sales slump.
