MGW Shifter Rattle....GONE !!!
I installed an MGW shifter on my 06'Z about a year ago and it's rattled from day one (it does have the C6 shift box w/rubber mounts also). It would rattle from about 2200-4500 rpms no matter how hard I was on the gas plus got worse the more the car warmed up (opposite of most people) pretty annoying unless the radio was turned up but willing to deal with it since I love it so much.
Just thought I'd try something since I had the console off repairing the Ipod wiring. I made a new gasket out of super dense rubber about double the thickness of the gasket that comes with it. I left the console off so I could really hear the drive train & shifter. I took it out for a nice "spirited" ride and low & behold the rattle is gone !!
It shifts & feels exactly the same just it's nice and quiet now.
Don't know if this will work for everyone but might be worth a try.

I didn't take any pics of the gasket, I traced the old one and slapped it on. The material I used is actually a printing press mat, it's a 3 layer multicompressible blanket that's .067 thick. This stuff must hold up to repeated compression from printing and not soften with inks or solvents. I only used it because it all I had to try. The print shop guy where I work would give me the old mats to use for making gaskets and other seals.
I would offer to make a bunch of gaskets but I only have a small piece left and the printer is no longer used at work so no more mats. I would call a local print shop and ask if they have any old mats or get some dense rubber that's about 1/16" thick.

Or...you can just call them and tell them you have the rattle problem...which they are aware of, and they will exchange it for you at no cost; they have a new version! They changed mine, and problem solved! That's what I call great customer service. I sold my car and will be getting an 08 Z. Guess what my first mod will be...you guessed it! an MGW shifter

Update.....rattle is back !! Sorry I feel like I jumped the gun on the results . Don't know why, it was quiet for a few days ? I'm pretty disappointed about it.

Funny how just about every time I am ready to try a MGW shifter this happens. Maybe I will just keep my MTI 6 shooter shifter after all.
Sorry that you are having trouble though..

I installed some DSVettes leather today so while I had the console out, I did this gasket mod today with some 1/16" sheet rubber. I had the infamous shifter vibration under hard acceleration. The shifter vibration is now gone. You can see the difference in thickness of the gasket.
I see that speedy77's vibration came back so I will monitor and see what happens. But for now, no rattle

So their new shifter doesn't have the issue?

Same here. Every time I read a thread raving about the difference a MGW shifter makes, I see another one where someone has problems with rattling.

I love my MGW. No rattle. Not everyone is having problems.

My MGW rattles just a bit with the stock **** and with my new aftermarket ****. Its not that annoying, mostly because it does not start making any noise till its over 4k rpm. I hardly ever go up above 4k.

Mine is quiet and works great. One of the best mods ever.

Perhaps mine isn't having an issue because I have the heavier race ****? Don't know. Just know that I love it and haven't had any problems with it.
Now this is not to belittle those who are actually having problems. But as mentioned, my understanding is that is has more to do with the linkage than it does with the shifter. Practically no play and no dampening in the MGW will be more prone to transmit noise and vibration through the linkage.

Mine rattles under acceleration and I wouldn't have it any other way. The cacophony of sound when I'm on it, just makes me happy I'm driving a "race car with a radio". With M2W and electric cutouts, who can hear the shifter?
BTW: George, unsolicited, sent me a new shifter years ago saying it was an improved model. He is the king of customer service. He told me what mods I would have to make to fix my rattle, but I said those of us who grew up with a rubber band wrapped around the reverse lockout of our C2 shifters wouldn't mind a little rattle.
