I have a compressor in my garage set up to run exclusively 78% nitrogen

The more I think about it after reading the replies (and thanks), ultimately, I'm responsible for whatever is done to the car. I figured they knew a proper setting somewhere in between recommended and the high 51 psi max pressure rating, that would yield correct tire wear. that max psi on this tire is the highest I've ever seen, and I incorrectly figured that has something to do with it.

I guess I'll drop it to 30 psi, and if I need to go up a bit, I'll fire up that 78% nitrogen compressor

BTW, I now have Michelin ZP's and inflated at 30 psi
I actually let the tires go too long, so long in fact the wear bars were hard to find. The stock GY's on my 1st 427 were changed at 17,000. 1st thing I did after I got the car (both 427's actually) was to take it to a corvette alignment shop and get an agressive street alignment. The 1st 427 was out of range on a tire and were in range on the other 3 but were too agressive. All this contributes to tire wear.

Here is a picture of a rear tire, sorry about the dirt, I had just returned from Utah in the rain...

Understatement of the year, Doug. In another mile or two, you'd have been rolling on the rims.

Thats not all, we were crusing at xxx and I noticed a vibration as I went past 90. When we stopped I looked at the tires... I got MSI Mark on the phone and ordered new ones so they would be there when I got home. Needless to say I drove slower on the way home.

Can you say lucky???? We have an oil life indicator, how about a tire life indicator...
