[Z06] Cartek Stage 3 Cam Package Underway
#21
Burning Brakes
I decided to go all out, so the heads came off the car for milling and valve work, I added the Nick Williams TB, FAST Intake, so from a stage 3 cam package I ended up going all out! So it's taking a little longer.
Plus Hurricane Irene knocked the power out of Cartek's shop for almost 2 weeks so that set us back. I anticipate everything being wrapped up within the next 2 weeks or so.
Thanks for inquiring, I can't wait to show all my data, pictures and videos! Fingers crossed ~600 rwhp!! More importantly I'm hoping for a low 10 second ride @ 135mph +! I can drive so I'm not concerned about my driving skillz, the car will haul major ***!

Hey Fellas,
Just an update, Cartek is wrapping everything up this week, heads are all done and back on the car, now just reassemble and tune! Stay tuned for dyno numbers and track times. Track time this year will be on Nitto Invos. I still have the stock clutch in there (LS9R) will be installed over the winter along with drag radials. Springtime 2012 I hope to get this baby into the deep 10's! Stay tuned, I will post the dyno graph along with a walk around video of how the car sounds. I told Julio I wanted a maximum effort naturally aspirated setup so I would imagine she'll sound pretty nasty!

BigMike,
That's awesome man the car is going to be BAD TO THE BONE and will definitely be breaking the 600rwhp barrier!
Can't wait to see the results, video and dragstrip times when you get some real drag tires to put all that power down
Those Nitto invos are going to be simply dangerous with all that power your going to have to harness. Being a drag racer and with all the New Jersey folks loving their drag racing, you should be able to borrow some rims with drag radials hooked up when you hit the track, ESPECIALLY now that the cold is here with November.
BEST OF LUCK very COOL!!!!!!

Hey Fellas,
Got a text from Julio yesterday, the car is running and alive! He's yet to tune it, probably early this week and I will post graphs and a dyno video, and a drive by, and 1/4 blasts down the strip!
Julio's one comment is that the Halltech CF-112 looks amazing and monstrous! Cartek uses Vararam on all their setups (I opted for the Halltech) so we are all interested in seeing the gains of the Halltech over the Vararam (assuming there will be gains)... I'm confident the car will make over 600 rwhp... That's just my opinion.
I bet this beautiful Fall northeastern air has the DA in the -1000 or lower range! Low 10's here I come!

I've heard it idle Mike, it sounds quite healthy.
I'm a big fan of the Vararam but I think it's limited size has it's place more on the LS2/LS3 (and of course, LS1/LS6) cars...for a big 427 that Halltech might be the smarter choice. And yes it does look good.

And I am keeping the factory exhaust system (with the exception of the headers and x pipe). An after market exhaust would make it sound down right nasty!

I like the 'factory cat back' approach as well, it flows well enough (especially when open) and is more 'daily user' friendly too.

Results are in Fellas. Just to reiterate this is Cartek's heads/cam setup with all the typical bolt-on's . Mind you these numbers are through catalytic converters and a factory exhaust system. I am certain with an aftermarket exhaust we would break the 600rwhp barrier! I want to state for the record I am not about dyno numbers, it's all about how the car runs on the street and track. I am certain as the car now sits she will run deep 10's @ 140+ mph!! We will soon see... With 4.10's it's a 9 second car.
Dyno performed on a 65* day with 87% humidity for those who want to know...

593 rwhp factoring in drivetrain loss @ 15%, what are we looking at 680HP at the crank, naturally aspirated, on pump gas? That has got to put a smile on your face!

Congrats bigmike those are great numbers for sure with cats and stock catback.
Great work from Cartek like always.
I really like how the car is making power all the way to 7000+rpm

Congrats Mike car is a freaking Beast and your goals will be realized on a drag strip (and as you know those are the numbers that count).
Enjoy your new fire breathing Z in good health and best of luck on reaching your goals on the drag strip!
