Default Traded in the z06 on a Mustang

All the threads made me scared so I got rid of my z06 and got a 2012 Mustang GT. It rides nice and smooth. Very quiet. No worrying about valves dropping. Seems like everyone else is jumping ship so why not.

Just kidding. Wife bought the Mustang for herself as a fun car. Already got a stack of mods for it so it can be a fun car.

For the record I wasn't buying the title of this thread. I'm not a Ford guy but I have to admit that the new Mustang GT is quite a performance package for the price. Congrats to your wife- she'll have a lot of fun with that car. Just try not to put the smack down on her...unless she asks for it of course.

I'd be curious to know how well that Mustang would stack up against a BASE Vette. Might be fairly close?

Gee..........had me for a second. Keep an eye out for piston 8 and the MT82 made in China tranny (unless you got the auto)

Leave it stock or near stock and you got yourself a beauty for her. Congrats

Looks like your wife has done good, as think Ford hit a real sweet spot with the standard 5.0 GT model for about $30K. It's no Vette, but not priced like one either. Have fun with the new family addition.

I've heard it handles really well compared to past models. Read an article where it was keeping up with a C5 Z06 around a track.

For those of you who have concerns of a 'Stang GT keeping up with a stock C6, first check out several mags who post 0-60, 1/4 mile and top speed times.
A stock C6 GS will keep up with the 550hp Shelby Cobra only running 1/10 of a second behing in 0-60 & 1/4 mile times but will dust the Cobra at top end. Corvettes have very long legs.
So far, nothing produced(*1) in America will top the Z06 or ZR1.
Car & Driver ran the new GT against the new Camero with it being a close one but the Camero slightly ran ahead of the 'Stang.
*1. Production standards from the US Dept of Labor means that a manufacturer must produce (build) 1000 or more units.

Congrats, great second car and I really like the new 5.0 Mustang GTs, especially with all the performance upgrades you can get (3.73 gears, manual tranny, a real street brawler).

That being said you have heard about the issues of the manual trannys have problems (assume your wife bought an automatic) and serious oil consumption problems on some of the engines (seriously)?

I'm sure the engine issues are just a small percentage, like our beloved C6 Zs. Best of luck with it and great color to!

Good one there... yes the GT is a pretty nice car.. Ford stepped it up... I remember watching them compare the E92 M3 and this... mustang barely lost which scared BMW~

Hard to argue with the value of the new 5.0, congrats. I only see them going 12.9 @ 110 AT BEST at the track, so for those wondering no, it absolutely will not keep up with a C6 unless Helen Keller is driving it.
