Default Plant Closing

I saw in another post that the plant was closing until October 16!

Is this a scheduled event?

Sucks for my order earlier this week!

Yes, it is closing. When I was there last week taking delivery of my ZR1 they were talking about it. Seems the orders have slowed greatly, which is typical for this time of the year, so a "vacation" for the plant until orders catch up. They have to be super efficient at the plant and batch cars through, it has to run full out or not at all. A very complex operation indeed, you should go and visit, or better yet, do the NCM delivery on your car.

mikelj - did you drive your ZR1 home from the museum? If so, how far?

I am over 1000 miles from Bowling Green. Don't want to put that kind of mileage on it right away.

Yes, I did. It was 1300 miles for me in New Mexico, further than where you are, but mostly good roads. You have to put 1500 miles on her before she is broken in and ready to rock and roll (and burnish the brakes), why not do it ASAP? You can cruise on the I-40 and just vary the gears from 4th to 5th to 6th to get the RPM variation necessary for breakin. I love driving and am semi-retired so I have time. The delivery experience and plant tour are a blast, and order the picture book from the NCM where they take photos of your car as it is built, very neat. But it's up to you, I like to drive my cars alot, nothing to save it for

The BG plant has had numerous shutdowns over the past couple of years. Anytime production & inventory get too far ahead of sales, they have a shutdown to get the numbers in better balance. Sadly they can build the cars faster than they can put butts in the seats.

I was planning on going up and taking the tour on Monday. Saw on the website that the plant is closed Oct 3 - Oct 16. Guess I'll have to find something else to do.
