Default Nitto vs. Bridgestone

Alright, I have to ask another tire question, but considering my rear tires are almost fully bald, I need some new tires. After doing much research and reading reviews here and on tire sites, I have narrowed my search to two different sets.

Nitto - cost $1150
NT555 Fronts 285/35-18
NT05 Rears 335/30-19

Bridgestone RE050A - Cost $1770 (installed)
Fronts 275/35-18
Rears 325/30-19

These are the two sets I am narrowed down to. I currently have NT555's in a 255/45-18 on my wife's mustang GT. I DD that car and the tires ride nice and have held up very well to abuse. So I think they would make a good front tire and have allot of life. I decided on the NT05 for a rear tire because of the added traction and good reviews on here.
I figure they NT555's will last through 2 sets of the NT05. a set of rear NT05 runs about $700, so that may need to be factored in.

I have read that Bridgestones have a long running life and are a real nice tire. allot of the reviews on tire rack have them lasting 25-40K miles.
I think the NT555's will last that length, but the NT05's may only last 10-20K. now I don't do burnouts or racing, just spirited driving. so I may need to replace the rears to get the same amount of miles as the Bridestones, bringing the total cost a little higher then the Bridgstones.

plus the bridgestones are a runflat.

which would you go with?

any mileage information on the bridgestones or NT05's?

I had the same choice about a year ago.

I went with the Bstones because they are RF. That was the deciding factor IMHO.

The Bstones are street use only for me.

I do mountain drives in the summer that sometimes take me 4-5 hours away from home, I just did not want to deal with a flat, repair kit, compressor, tow, etc...

5K miles and no complaints

I am in the same boat, trying to decide between Invo and the Bridgestone RE050A. Looks like 1400 for the Invo and 1800 for Bridgestone I think from everything i have read and knowing I wont track or drag race the car the tires should perform comparable. For the extra 100 a tire the RFT seems to make sense especially doing trips of 4-5 hours away up in the mountains. Also both are available from Discount and they are all over the place in NC so I should be able to get the car to one in case I need one.

If anyone has had experience with both the Invo's and the RE050A I would appreciate hearing from you.

Sorry to hijack thread...

Not sure why I would use NT555 up front. Probably has different sidewall stiffness making car feel weird or squirrely.

To answer your question I do not have info on the bridgestone however, I am on my second set of NT05's 285/335.

I have gone to a couple DE's and drive the car fun most of the time. Case in point my average is 12-16mpg on every tank. That said my goodyears lasted me 17k miles my NT05 went almost 30k miles.

Sorry, but I think you are dreaming. My NT-05s lasted only 10,000 miles on my C5 Z06. Michelin PS-2s cost twice as much, and lasted 17,500 miles.

I installed the Bridgestones on my 09 Z06 for $1567 including M&B & tax. Really like them. I've put about 5,000 miles on them(and that includes high speed running at Talladega(145MPH in the 33 degree banked corners and 160+ on the straights) and some "aggressive" driving on the Tail of the Dragon. I don't do burnouts. They now measure between 8/32's and 9/32's compared with 10/32's when new. I expect very good mileage out of them plus I would never drive without run flat tires.

What are the respective tires cold temp characteristics? By that I mean, being from Central,MA cold weather sets in earlier than I'd like, so I would be interested in hearing how these tires do in say 40-50* temps?

As an example the stock GY's are completely useless in 1st, most of second, and part of 3rd. I only have a CAI & tune for now. IT is downright scary how the car lights up the tires so easily even at say 2500rpm in second, and not full throttle!

I was considering the PS2's, along with the mentioned ones above, so anyone have input on cooler weather performance. And what would I be giving up in hot weather, if anything? I don't track the car, just very spirited street driving

I drove my car every day of the winter in Richland, Washington (and every day here in Texas) except when there was ice or snow on the road when I wanted to leave the house. Both the PS2s and NT-05s have little or no traction when the (dry) pavement temperature is below 50 degrees F, and even less when it's below freezing. I have been "caught" out when it snowed, and tho I din't crash, I was a fool to try to drive in those conditions. The NT-05s are terrible in standing water when they get worn to the wear bars (but fine for track usage). The PS2s are better in the wet. In my opinion, there are no "Maximum Performance" tires which are good for very low temperatures. The chemical compound for those tires just needs heat to give mechanical grip.

Since it sounds like you intend to daily drive on these tires. I would recommend the Bridgestones.

I have run NT05's on my Z and now have the Bridgestones.

Things you should consider are that you appear to daily drive and not plan on tracking on the tires, also including being in Houston with our infamous rain like weather when we aren't in a drought.

The Bridgestones have a deeper tread which will mean alot against wet traction and less tire changes when the rears wear out as they will as my NT05's gingerly lasted about 12-14k before I just replaced the tires. I also daily drive my Z and a surprising charateristic you will need to keep in mind is that the Bridgestones will also stay quieter with their tread pattern longer than the Nitto's. Dry grip will be definately go to the non runflat Nitto's but daily drivers have different priorities.

That was back in April. I was really surprised when the local tire dealer quoted that price as I had already checked the online prices. My dealer's out the door price was less then just the tires online. But, when I asked him to quote on a set of Michelin PS2 ZP, he quoted $2400 OTD, way above the online prices. It may have been that he was an authorized Bridgestone dealer, but sold all brands.

I asked the nt555/nt05 paring a little while ago, and the vote was it should work fine. I wish they made an nt555 in the rears, but oh well.
