Well all I got done last night (besides pay bills) was to download the stock ECU data and emailed it off to Vector. Headers arrived yesterday along with all of the gaskets and new crank bolt to put everything back together. Hopefully baring any problems will have the majority of the work completed by Sunday night......

Will try to snap a few pics as well......

Well I've got the new cam in and valve springs changed out. CHecked all the valves for an excessive amount of play and all were very good. There were 2 exhaust valves that had a little more play than the rest, one was number 6 exhaust and I forget at the moment what cyl the other was. Checked all of the valve sping heights using that niffty little comp cams tool and they were all right around 1.850 plus or minus a couple of thousands. All of my rockers looked great! Loosening the oil pan bolts down each side made the oil pump easier to install without any damage to the gasket. The oil pump was a PIA to get started just get the back half aligned and started and then us a scribe or pick to lift and align the front half of the pump. Heating the Harmonic balancer in the oven at 250 degress worked great. Was able to start it by hand, (FYI OveGloves work great for handling the heated balancer) and tap it on far enough to use the old bolt to pull it onto the crank. The other PIA task has been reinstalling the steering rack. getting it inbetween the clips that keep coming off was a pain. Here are a few pics so far. Still have the front of the motor to put back together and to installed the Kooks Headers.... Hopefully will be running by the weekend....

After some recent findings make sure to red loctite the cam bolts and TQ to about 26 ft lbs not the 18 ft lbs that most of us have been doing, or cam bolts "could" come lose but most likely won't..

Well I used red loctite but torqued the 3 cam gear bolts to 18 ft lbs as that is what I had for the torque specs. Did they change???

Don't know about an official change but now I am reading 26-30 ft lbs, go read unreal's post in the FI section and you will see mixed reviews on the TQ specs

Well got the stock exhaust manifolds off last night and pulled the O2 sensors. One of the after cat O2 sensors was either put in at the factory cross threaded or it galled in the bung. With some BP blast and carefully working it back and forth I was able to get it out but the threads are toast. Have to get another sensor today. Should have the headers in tonight then will work on getting the rest of the front of the engine back together.

Mark, if you get stuck on any part of the install give me a call; I've done a few dozen C6Z header installs over the years

Not sure if you are keeping up with this thread or not but there is some very informative stuff comming out about aftermarket cams used with otherwise stock heads / rockers / push rods that may interest you.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...oming-off.html

It starts getting into the cams around pg5 I think.

Yes I have been following. These are some of the reasons that I went with the Katech Cam, springs and retainers. It's been around a while and I haven't really heard of any problems with this combination. It is also probably one of the few combinations that has been Spintron tested and was done with the stock heads, valves and rockers. Also their lift isn't near as radical as some of the others out there when compared to the stock 0.591/0.591 the Katech is only 0.615/0.648.
