Pictures of my buddies LS7 that went kaboom
Friend of mine bought his C6 Z06 used a few months ago. Only mods were LTs, and exhaust. Blew it at the drag strip a few nights ago. Dropped exhaust valve, destroyed piston, tore the sleeve out, and chunked the cylinder wall. LSX to come.
This pic is looking into the intake manifold where the throttle body bolts on.
Piston shattered into oblivion, tore the sleeve out, chunked the wall.

Thank you exhaust valve.
You can sit with the pedal to the floor bouncing off the rev limiter and you wont get valve contact. The only way it would occur is from a miss shift. For example, going into first from second instead of third.
I sleep real well at night thanks to my exceladyne titanium valves.
Sorry brother that really stinks, thats not going to be a cheap rebuild.
The sky is falling!!!!!!!!!!

That looks just like mine did. I looked at it as a good excuse to call my buddy Jason at Katech and have them build me a nice track attack 427 Pics are very similar.

I agree with the comment that it should not happen even if you just have the engine bouncing off the rev limiter for a few seconds. That's what the rev limiter is for, to prevent over reving. BMW tried that tact to deny claims in their E46 M3 engines, but that didn't hold up. It ended up as a manufacturing problem with the bearings for them. They did a recall and ended up replacing 150+ engines under warranty.
