EE Catch Can results
I installed an EE catch can about a year ago. Several forum members have asked how much oil it traps. My Z is an 09 with 25K miles, stock LS7 and several HPDE's and other speed events on it.
This past weekend I ran it in the 140 MPH class at the Silver State Classic Challenge, an event with targeted average speeds over a closed-off 90 mile portion of NV Hwy 318 between Lund and Hico, about 200 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
I emptied my EE catch can before I left home for the event. Round trip distance was about 1050 miles. During the event I was running mostly around 140 MPH in 5th gear, approximately 4500 RPM and got 10.2 MPG for the 90 miles. Oil temp ~ 222*, water temp 217* using M1 0W-40.
The EE catch can trapped only about 1/4 oz of reasonably clean oil, so these conditions did not stress the system at all. I'll be doing an HPDE day in 3 weeks and will report how much it collected during that event where the engine will spend more time in the 4500-7K RPM range.
I think the most it has trapped was 2 oz over 3K miles and 2-3 speed events, but I will be keeping a more detailed record in the future.

Good info thanks for posting . This has always been a fairly frequent topic of debate , it's interesting cuz I've seen street driven stock cars trap double that and they are not run near as hard as you ran... Sometimes seems like no rhyme or reason behind it
I am ready to order one then see a thread like this.

That Silver State run sounds like a freakin blast!! Wish I had know about it, but I just don't run in those circles much. I'll have to check it out next year. Just the thought of speeding without worrying about getting a ticket is intoxicating!!!

Their rule book is there, too. They usually run the third weekend of May (NORC) and of September (SSCC). Expect to start first in Touring (95-110 MPH classes) for an event, then Grand Touring (115-125 MPH classes), then Grand Sport (130-150 classes). I ran 110 class last fall, 125 in the spring and then 140 this fall. I'll probably do the 150 class next spring. C5 and C6 Vette coupes have a strong enough roll hoop stock to not need an add-on roll bar up thru the 150 classes.
Do not expect an experience waiver if you have never done these type events. I am a 40 year SCCA racer and could not get an experience waiver. All the classes are fun and it is a great event. Class Act events.

Yeah they run a real tight ship at that event. They will ban you if your average speed is over your class restriction. Really sweet event though.

Since I hit 173 in the Mojave Mile and 196.5 at the Mojave Magnum, I am not as impressed with doing 165 when it doesn't get me any better result.
My goal in the speed trap was to be as close to my target average rather than push to the tech max, as if you miss it high, they will DQ you.
Play by the rules and you can have a great time.
They are very very careful about tires since in open road racing a tire failure at high speed is the biggest risk.
