SgtBAXMAN you're fine unhooking the negative for the reason above.

I learned that lesson the hard way long ago. Always negative first. Except on old British cars that have positive earth!

Default retainer clips

Anyone know the trick to removing these fittings? It appeared to me that the white plastic clip needed to be spread, but when I applied a very small amount of force with a snap ring pliers one side of the clip snapped off.

Take a small pick or regular screw driver and push down on the top/unclosed side on the white part only and pull....

Tired of worrying about this issue. It's basically ruined the experience of owning this car. So, I'm going to pull the heads this winter and have them rebuilt by AHP. If I'm fixing something that isn't broke, so be it.

I broke off the tip of one because I thought it needed to be spread instead of pushed in. Don't think it hurts anything.

When Kohle gives you your OE guide measurements, you'll be glad you did.

I know exactly how you feel. I bought a 2008 Z06 low mile last February. it made my stomach hurt every time I drove it until I had the heads fixed 2 months later. I also used AHP and did the work myself.

Me: Hey wife, I need to fix the heads on the Z06 we just spent $36K on.

Wife: Why would you buy it if it is broken?

Me: Well, it's not really broke, but I need to fix it

Note: You may need to specifically ask for your OE guide measurements. I wasn't told mine when I did the swap. Not sure it would have made me feel better by knowing? Makes me feel better just knowing I did, just glad this is behind me I hope. I does make me nervous that a couple members here have had guide failure after addressing the heads. I just try and not think about it

My wife said stop worrying (can't) or sell it. I said there's one other option.

2 years ago I sold my financial interest in a machine shop because the majority owner wanted to retire. We're both 66. I've discussed this issue so much ( he thinks it's a non issue and I'm just paranoid)
that the last time I started to discuses it he got quite OP'd. I may bring a spring compressor home and check a couple just to see if and how loose they are.

If it were just another engine, I'd fix them locally, but I want someone that really knows these things.

Unfortunately photobucket's extortion tactics ruined another really good DIY thread...but here's AHP's wiggle thread. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-test-diy.html

What I meant was I may check a couple after the heads are off, as I intend to pull them and have them rebuilt no matter what.

Sorry for the confusion.

No worries. You've got a solid plan in place. I have AHP package 4 heads as well...upgraded to MS90 guides and PSI 1511 springs. My car had 14/16 guides beyond GM service limits with 15K street driven miles.

Default fuel line

What have you guys used to disconnect the fuel line? I have a set of these, I've owned for decades, but never used before. Don't seem to do the trick.

I have a set of all different colored ones and I think it is the gray one that fits it when I did mine....

Figured out the tool doesn't move with the fitting. I was pushing on the tool, all I needed to do was pull on the line fitting.

Worked about 2 hrs. Exhaust's loose, air intake, coil packs, upper rad hose are off, Alt is off but the PS/Alt bracket is a PITA.

I too did the same thing and got a 2007 Z06 in Nov and am waiting on the delivery from AHP right now. I researched other track capable cars and fun to drive on street, they all had issues:

BMW V8 - Crank Bearings have to be changed, oiling issues at high G loads
Porsche 911- Intermediate shaft oiling issues requiring after market solutions
Neither of these companies had recalls for this issues, pick your poison. Chevy's are cheaper to fix and many more qualified mechanics to work on them because of LS platform. Adding HP to these other brands costs 4x, but like other Chevy Tremec transmissions I wish they would have put in usable 5th gear for road course use, 7.5 is too tall.

Just finished removing my heads. Now to cleaning and waiting on getting them back! I will say it took me about 6 hours to remove the heads. Had some pain with that power steering pump and abs module. Afer reading through the forum again I could have avoided it all it sounds like but oh well! Will post more pictures when I get the heads back and put on!
