It will stay in whatever position you leave it in when you shut the car off and restart it. I have the same remote. I leave it in the ash tray, girlfriend still hasn't found it.

Just remember to have it in the "loud" mode when you shut the car off, or you will find your battery run down.

You have other issues. mine doesnt run the battery down at all, neither does my friends Z
