Default MGW Shifter observations

So I put in a MGW short throw on my TR6060 and it's very notchy. So much so that I miss 2nd, 3rd, and 4th now way too often. The car was down for a few months, but I don't forget how to shift that fast. I've been driving it for a couple of weeks now and trying to shift as fast as possible, but it doesn't seem it's as fast as I could shift with the stock shifter.

Anyone else having this issue? It's almost like the MGW has to click into neutral before it lets you go into gear, not smooth at all. Is this common?

Guess the 'middle' click is normal.

Yes. Same experience. MGW is notchy, harder to shift, and more prone to grinding/etc than stock.

I love my MGW. The thing is that you can't manhandle the shifter like the video above. You need to use the cusp of your hand/fingers when pulling back, and the palm of your hand when upshifting the 2-3 shift.

I have run MGW on several vehicles now. No grinding and I feel a much improved shift. Installation to the T is everything with them. Especially in the C5/6. Did yours come with a billet box and who installed it?

I have over 22,000 miles on my MGW and I have never missed a shift. The stock unit i was constantly missing 3rd. Maybe your install needs tweaking because it should be a more positive feel not less.

No box and CPR installed it when they installed yh TR6060. The more I see the more it seems it's a combo between the shifter and the TR6060. I'm coming from a T56 and stock shifter. Hopefully going back to shock shifter helps me.

You really need the lower box it makes the world of difference my original MGW didn't have the box. I never miss shifts and it shifts like butter but very precise.

Absolutely need the lower box and take time and install right. No way will the stock shifter ever match up to it

My favorite combo on a tr6060 car is oem zr1 shifter. I like how butter smooth it is.

You got one we can trade? Lol

I just went out again to try it out, not getting any better. Foot too fast for hand. That shifter click is killing my timing.

I'm gonna try the stock shifter first and I'll let you know.

Do you have their lower box? I hated it without their box. After I added the box, it was much better.

Put stock shifter back in and waaaaay smoother. Gears go in now without the hiccup in the middle. I did like how tight the MGW felt but hated the notchiness. So MGW is up for sale with stock lower box.

Interesting how everyone says the MGW lower box made their MGW much better. Will their lower box work with the stock shifter? I'd be interested to see if it makes the stock shifter that much better too.

I just drove mine again yesterday and specifically noticed the LOE to move the shifter in and out of gear. It seems like it has a little more side-to-side tension but going into gear is pretty effortless. That might be because I have the lower box and a few miles on mine.
