Drone issue from my aftermarket exhaust !
Hi all,
I just installed Borla Catback exhaust, part no.: 140191 on my 2007 Z.
It sounds really great but drone like crazy.
Are there anyway I can have same sound but not drone inside? without getting new aftermarket exhaust?

Go back to stock and install a M2W device to open/close whenever you want.

Almost all aftermarket exhaust systems exhibit drone. There is pretty much zero reason to install any kind of after market exhaust system. No performance gains, drone, and don't sound any better as far as I am concerned and I've listened to all of them. About the only part of the cat back exhaust I would even consider changing would be to do the Josh B. 3" muffler mod.
So my advice is to sell the Borla and revert back to stock. If you want more sound then do the Josh B. 3" muffler mod and install a set of long tube headers. No drone and sounds wicked. Gut the cats if you want even more growl with some pop.
Your only other choice is to avoid the speed/rpm that the Borla drones in.

I had the Borla Catbacks on my 99 C5.. They sounded great except at highway speed in 6th gear. The Drone was pretty bad, I don't think I ever got used to it.. An upgraded stereo sound system and some Metallica was the only way I could deal with it..

I agree 100%, and I'm not sure what Moredeth is talking about, they are not high pitched and like you said, you can close them if you don't like the drone at certain rpm/speeds. I bet he has never heard the BB Fusions in person.

maybe I will try that !!!

You could try getting some resonators installed in the mid pipe. If you do sell your Borla, try to get a ZR1 axle-back. I love mine and the drone was greatly reduced over the standard Z06 "perforated" system.

I did install some Dynomat in the interior of the car which helped quite a bit for drone. OP might try that.

False. I had Corsa Sports on my Z06 with cam, headers, x-pipe and they droned like crazy at 1500 RPM. So unless I wanted a huge headache, 6th gear on the highway was a no-no. Stock car? Sure, they don't have hardly any drone. Mod'd car? Forget about it.
I sold them, went to an OEM system and put in a custom M2W switch. Love it, best of both worlds. No more drone.

The Borla Touring I have, does not have any drone, at any rpm....and that's with headers and about ~580 rwhp. I don't think they make the Touring any longer though. It's not loud enough for the juvenile delinquents and old guys pretending to be young again, so they probably didn't sell enough to keep them in production.
I've sat in the passenger seat of a slightly modified Z with the Corsa cat back. I'm calling BS on the comments saying there is no drone. There is. Some people must be tone deaf.
Can't stand the tone of modified OE mufflers. Too raspy for my tastes.

My ATAK, despite all their advertising claiming they have eliminated drone LMFAO - definitely has its share on the highway. You just need to learn the ranges and avoid them when cruising. For me, the stock/M2W was too tame, and the ATAK is worth a bit of drone since it sounds just nasty

Embrace the badness of the Borlas, they sound awesome!!
