I was thinking failed lifter as well...but that shouldn't wipe out a complete motor. Get your car out of there and towed to CPR like everyone has recommended.
Agreed. Have they already taken apart the motor or are they saying they will do it for 13k? Hell get it home and see if a member on here can come help you pull the heads if you arent capable of doing it.

No they have not taken the motor out yet...pending my approval..Once I agreed GM will send new motor and it will cost me 13k including the labor and GM pay for the rest!

Unless you've got $13K just burning a hole in your pocket...I would be shocked if Cordes couldn't get you back on the road for a lot less than $13K out of pocket if your motor didn't have a giant hole in the side of it (which it appears it does not).

They wouldnt know anything without taking it apart, and for the cost they want to charge to take it apart, your better off going to a reputable shop and not a dealership. And to pull the heads it doesnt cost 13k, thats a two hour job at most, then from there diagnose the problem. Did they drain the oil to see if there are metal shavings or needle bearings on the drain plug? Trust what everyone is saying on here and get the hell away from that dealership.

Thank You...I will give them a call and see if we can arrange something...should I tell them the dealership diagnosis?

Not worth mentioning, really, even though Joe is a member of this board. the dealership didn't really diagnose anything

Your bat **** crazy if you pay $13k for a new engine for a knock or noise.

Tow it to a real shop, pay less than 1/2 that, and get a much better setup.

A new $13k engine will still need head work/etc anyways.

If it is a lifter, it could be a $1500 replacement, or less.

Dealership hasn't done anything besides try to take you for a ride. Get it out of there ASAP. They are trying to screw you.

This is exactly why I do all my own work on my car, dealerships are a joke anymore. Im surprised they didnt try telling you the car will explode the next time you step in it.

Thank you for all the recommendations everyone! Sir feel free to stop by the shop and we can discuss a time you could drop the car off or call and ask to speak to me. I will warn you we are always booked far out even with 4 full time guys. I just want to be up front with you on that.

Even with being booked out 4-5 weeks, a $1500-4500 fix compared to $13k for a bend over job that still will need work, and who knows what else the dealer will mess up is well worth it. You can rent or buy a second car to drive with the money saved.

^ Agreed...rent a car and you'll still be thousands of dollars ahead versus the dealer.

I think he would know if he dropped a valve..... That'll cause a little more damage than a tick.

Sounds like a lifter or bearing issue to me. No way I'd spend 13k on a new motor. Plus the new motor will likely still need head work and will just be a stock motor. Why not upgrade while you're at it?
