Converting LS9 to wet sump
#42
Well I have ordered the engine & other needed parts, my supplier says he received the engine so far but non of the other GM parts including the t56 gearbox, ECM/harness, oil pump, timing sprocket, timing cover drive accessory kit. He said that they are currently back ordered, nation wide! (can anyone confirm that?)
My plan is straight forward, install the wet sump pump, sprocket, cover, oil pan, along with a custom spacer behind the balancer covering the space between the sprocket & balancer pulley.

Melting Slicks
Send me the part numbers you need and I'll check with my supplier.
I think you are making a mistake going with the custom made spacer. I still say go with the ATI balancer.

Hey Guys, parts I ordered other than the engine are:
T56 super magnum # 19352208
T56 installation kit # 19331083
LS9 controller kit # 19354338
LS9 Accessory Drive System # 19243524
CTS-V oil pump # 12612289
LS3 crank sprocket # 12556582
LS3 timing cover # 12600326
I'll be using a custom oil pan (front sump) made specifically for a BMW/LS swap, the oil pan includes an oil level tube/stick so I don't have to drill one in the engine. As I mentioned previously I'll fabricate a custom spacer between the balancer & sprocket. Making such spacer shouldn't be a big deal, it was actually AIT's recommendation to make the spacer as their balancer is currently unavailable. Unlike the LS7 & LS3 the LS9 accessory drive kit is only offered with AC included! I plan to somehow eliminate it, likely buy fabricating a dummy AC pulley. I plan to post photos here once I start the wet sump conversion for future reference.

A quick update, I received the engine & all other parts some weeks ago, performed the dry sump to wet sump conversion today, it was different yet easier than anticipated! First, I went with my original plan installing the dry sump oil pump, crank sprocket, a custom spacer, and and an LS3 timing cover, only to find that the cover's seal is too far back! So as a quick change of plan, I kept the LS9's original (long) crank sprocket, installed the wet sump (thin) oil pump. The long sprocket seems to drive the wet sump pump fine! I had to use the original timing cover so the seal is in the correct position. Rather than modifying the wet sump oil pan, I modified the original timing cover by adding an insert to the lower lip so know it fits the wet sump pan perfectly fine! So, I didn't have to use the LS3 crank sprocket nor the custom spacer. I'll try to post some photos as a reference.

Well yes the project was finished last summer, early this year we replaced the T-56 super magnum with a sequential gearbox. The wet sump conversion went easier than anticipated as I mentioned earlier in the thread. What kind of pics you want, the car or the wet sump conversion?

Well, there are a few approaches to do it, please go through the thread as it contains many useful information. In my case the conversion was easy enough as I ended using only a CTS-V oil pump # 12612289 or you can use an LS3 oil pump # 12586665. You have to modify the timing cover so it could fit the wet sump oil pan, likely by adding a lower lip. For my specific application, I had to use an aftermarket oil pan, which was equipped with a dipstick, otherwise, you have to drill a hole in the block for a dipstick tube. Luckily, a shop called 'Scoggins Dickie' offers a dipstick kit with a guide to drill an oil hole.
