l may be another dropped valve statistic
Car died on me yesterday. Didn't make a horrific sound. Didn't sound or seem like anything broke. Thought it was the battery so tried to jump it. That didn't work so ended up on a flatbed to the shop. Once there we pulled the valve covers off. There was no visible damage at all. Pulled a spark plug out and it was damaged pretty badly. Will be pulling the heads off in the next day or so to see how bad it is. Car has 5700 miles on it. It's an 09. Does this sound like the valve drop situation?
The thing that sucks so bad is I've been talking with Kohle at American Heritage and was planning on taking my car down to him in the few weeks to have the heads done.

man you guys are scaring me. I got my Z end of October and have only driven her twice. 3200 miles and I was really looking forward to the summer but I’ll most definitely be addressing the heads before I even take her out of storage now.

I bought a 6,700 original mile 2008 Z06 in February of this year. I bought a 48/32 GMEPP Platinum warranty with zero deductible for $3800. I'm not going to worry about a thing, I'm just going to drive it all summer. If something happens, it's covered. I put 300 miles on it yesterday and it rocks!! If all goes well this summer, which I expect to be the case, I'll have the dealership do a wiggle test, and if the guides are sloppy, I'll have them fixed through AHP under warranty.

Anyone think the block will be salvageable?

Only thing on your side is low rpms and no WOT when it occurred. Unbelievable man. Pull the head and all your answers will be there. Best of luck bud

if someone you know has a lit fiber scope you should be able to look inside the spark plug hole and get a rough idea on what happened

bad news is for you guys w/warranty is (if you wind up w/claim) the heads on your replacement engines has the same head issue. sooner or later you’re gonna have to get heads rebuilt...

Chevy will use every excuse under the book to exempt the claim if the is 1 after market item on your motor. They turned me down when my red brakes calipers turned brick brown from going to the track, they blamed it on the after market brake lines and noted in my book of life car had been tracked. I sold it because warranty was worthless at that point.

^^^ Damn, sorry to hear that. I personally would spend the warranty money on getting the heads repaired and be done with it. to me all the warranty does is buy time. I would hate to be out of state, have an issue, try dealing w/GM, be inconvenienced for a few days and be turned down by some loophole...

I bought my 09 Z last year with 151 miles on it. At 400 miles I took it to AHP since there local for a look thru. AHP suggested to do wiggle test because of "Head issue". AHP conducted valve spec test and found multiple valves where out of spec at 400 miles.
Great job GM for outsourcing and standing behind your product!
5700 is low miles, doesn't surprise me.

Yes, unfortunately it is not an internet myth or a bunch of histerical Corvette owners on a Forum, mine were bad with 3027 miles on them, just went with rebuilt AHP heads two weeks ago.
