Z06/Z07 or Carbon to ZR1
I would appreciate perspective from anyone that has moved from a 2011-2013 Z07 or 2011 Carbon HC/CAI to a stock ZR1. The RWHP should be very close and I am curious if the added torque in the ZR1 made any difference, was the ZR1 faster, were you disappointed? I am trying to get feedback from those with the Z07 or Carbon because they have all of the ZR1 components (except the LS9, of course) thanks.

Love my ‘11 Z07! Having driven a buddy’s ‘10 ZR1 a few times, I thought that the ZR1 had a little stronger low rpm torque, but definitely felt heavier (almost like my CTS-V) in normal driving.

The ls9 has a tiny bit of a supercharger lag, even though it's a root blower, maybe it's the low compression of the ls9 motor that makes it feel like that,, I'm not sure, I just remember my ls7 felt instantaneous with throttle response. Power wise, the zr1 feels better in the higher gears, it's odd because even from a low rpm in sixth gear it will still surprise you how much power it has, that's where I felt my Z06 lacked in comparison

I carefully considered the two options, and ultimately decided the ZR1 wasn't for me (I come from the "light is right" camp), same reason why I don't dig the C7 Z. I also didn't see the value in the addtional $10K to $15K over the Carbon I purchased. Now that I've educated myself a bit on the differences (LS9 block is made of stroger alloy, the performance trans ratios, etc.) that delta is a little clearer, but it would not change my decision.
This doesn't really answer your specific question, as I have not driven a ZR1.

You have an IO Z07, tied for best overall with an IO ZR1 in my book. I would not let your car go for a ZR1 unless it is an IO car. Also, you would want to mod the ZR1 a little to outrun your current car. Also if I were in a position to buy I would buy your car to make the decision easier haha.

Not really. Just curious if someone that changed from a HC/CAI Z07 or Carbon to a ZR1 felt the change was worth it. The only difference in the two cars is the power plant and I wanted to try to get real world feedback on the switch. Did you have a Z07 or Carbon?

^^^ Neither - had a Z06 with PRC heads, mild cam, intake/tune @ 525 rwhp. Loved my Z, really no issues other that that pos MSD intake which I removed but I will be honest, wears you out reading about LS7 head/guide issues........and there is something special about owning the ZR1 which has plenty of potential - at the end of the day, only you can decide what you want. Good luck with your decision!

Thanks to all for the feedback, I really love my IO Z07, and I like it even more now with the heads addressed and the additional power. I just have never driven a ZR1 and am curious if it pulls as hard as a modified Z06. Owning a Z07 everything else is there; mag ride, suspension, oil cooler, exhaust, radiator, etc. I appreciate everyone's perspectives. I would like to be able to race a relatively stock ZR1, maybe I will get the opportunity next season at one of the Slip Stream events.

I own a ‘13 ZR1 and have driven a couple of Z06’s.
I found the differences between the two to be found in very small degrees of feel.
The Z06 feels more biased toward track with a bit less weight and a NA engine with seemingly linear pull to higher rpm.
The ZR1 seems more biased to GT with a bit extra weight. The LS9 engine hits harder than the LS7, and progressively pulls harder as revs ramp up.
Not to say the ZR1 isn’t a very capable track car, it is. It just feels ever so slightly more GT.
My feeling is the ZR1 is a bit more “Jekyll and Hide” in character.
I suspect a lightly modded Z06 would have similar acceleration times to a stock ZR1 - they’re close in stock configuration - so the more capable driver would be the winner.

Can I be the guy who would like to own both?
I don't ever think I'll sell my Z06, I'm just head over heels for the car, but I do have a desire to own a C6 ZR1 along side it one day. I loved the comment above about the ZR1 feeling more like a GT-type car, where as the Z06 finds itself most happy on the road course. Win-win.
