Default Aftermarket muffler removal.

Im getting ready to remove my Akropovich axle back in a few weeks. Will my 12" race ramps be enough ground clearance to get the job done? Or will I need to access a lift to do this? Also I have read you have to lower the cradle a little to get the stock system out, will that be the case with removing the Akropovich? Just dont want to run into any surprises.

Not sure about the ramps being enough height but you should be able to wiggle them out without to much trouble. I believe the more important question to come will be......are you selling the Akra’s....🤔

Yes Im selling them but a guy in my local corvette club has claimed them. If he backs out, I will put them up for sale in the classifieds.

I will be running the black tip corsa sports.

Shouldn't need to drop the cradle. Disconnect the sway bar from the cradle so it swings down out of the way is what works for OE mufflers...so keep that in mind.

I fought my passenger side muffler for about 3 hours on my 2008 Z06. I loosened up the rear cradle a bit and it came right out. The drives side came out very easily before dropping the cradle. Also be very careful with the EVAP wiring and connectors on the passenger side. I didnt disconnect the battery and ended up popping a fuse for the EVAP system. Easy fix but can be frustrating.

I think you will need more then 12 inch clearance(I had 20 plus inches and it was tight doing stock muffler removal). After market mufflers are easier to get out then the stocks because they are much smaller. Good Luck!

Jackstands, dropped the swaybar but didn't touch the cradle. On my '09, they came right out. On my current '07, removing the heat shield was the magic touch.

You'll have to drop the cradle depending on the size of the cans. my OEM mufflers were too large and I had to loosen the cradle to drop it about an inch on the body bolts. Not a big deal, but you should use jack stands either way.

I have some jackstands but the 12" race ramps get the rear wheels 12" off the ground. I can source some good jackstands if I need them. The mufflers are smaller than stock and the tips come off.

pic when i installed my headers and x.

The other thing here is that the Akra cans are much smaller than the OE muffler cans, and they're oriented different as well. In simplistic terms Akra's are "landscape" while OE's are "portrait". I think they'll be easier to remove than OE provided you have the rear of the car lifted off the ground enough.

Ya the corsas look really easy to install as they are 2 piece design. 👍

Corsa install will be a non-issue for sure. Why are you getting rid of the Akra's? Drone, looks, etc? Do you have the Ti or Stainless Akra's...and is it axle back, or do you have the X-pipe as well. If you have a full Akra Evo Ti system for a C6Z/ZR1...you've got a unicorn that many people will be interested in buying.

As far as I can tell its just the stainless with carbon tips. I like the sound of the corsas better and now that they offer the black 4"tips I decided to switch.

Put my corsas on today. They sound awesome. Very happy with them. The 12" race ramps were enough to get clearance. I had to rrmove the heat shield to get the passenger out. These are actually quiter in the cab than my akropovich.

wot

startup and idle
