Do you recognize this C6Z?
Hi all,
I'm looking to acquire an '08 C6Z at a local dealer and they know nothing about the mods that have been performed to this car. Did it belong to anyone here before?
VIN 1G1YY26E785121528

Welcome to the forums. Since you're new I did a little work for you, only because I saw the dealer name on the back of the car. In the future, a little more information would be helpful. Add your location into your profile too.

Looking at the car it is a 2008 Z06, 2lz. The spoiler, side skirts, wheels and splitter are not factory equipment for that particular car. Nicely done by the look of it but they did not come on that car. Whether that matters or not is up to you.
The interior appears to be all factory 2lz.
There are no pictures under the hood, so it's just a guess.
It's overpriced. I bought a 2009 4 weeks ago with 1500 less miles, a nicer 3lz interior, brand new tires, fixed heads and some other upgrades for 4500 less. Nice car by the look of it, but that price is high. Especially for a 2lz and no idea what is under the hood. Find out what's going on under the hood, and offer a lot less.

The Carfax states it was purchased in Nebraska, then to Colorado, finally Florida. Its currently at a dealer near Naples.
I saw long tube headers, cam, intake. I saw some fancy spark plug cables as well.
What I couldn't see is suspension, how many cats remain (smelled catless but maybe I'm sensitive), tuning, head/spring/valve work, which brand/profile cam and the all important LS7 valve guide "fix".
I agree they are asking too much, but they're being flexible. This was likely a trade-in on a c7.
If I can get any sort of info on what I'm getting into it would super be appreciated on the off chance the prior owner is on this forum.

you paid 34 for a 18k 2009 3lz with brand new tires and fixed heads? Damn that’s either a super great deal or I have no clue how much my car isn’t worth

I thought it was a good deal but not amazing, and I did wait a bit to get it. Started looking on October and I called on 3 or 4 others in nov and december for cars of similar value for similar prices. Missed out on each. Twice I got "oh, I sold that this morning." The deals are out there to be had if you wait. As a seller, there are plenty selling for much more if you're willing to wait for the right buyer to come along and patient enough to turn away a ton of window shoppers. C6z values range considerably. I was willing to wait and go anywhere in the country to get what I wanted so I got a better deal. If you're only willing to buy what is local you'll pay more. Or sell for more. If you're buying, do some searches for comparable that are favorable and bring them with you when you go to bargain. It helps. If you're a seller be prepared for that.

Take a real close look at the exhaust tips, the two inner tips look different, custom possibly. You can't really see it from the above picture barely due to the shadows, but when going to the link it appears the center tip innards look different then the outer tips.

I noticed the same thing with the exhaust tips too.
This was a crap selfie cam shot under the car of the muffler. It looked stock-ish to me. Seems that the butterfly valve mechanism is visible at 4-oclock of the exhaust hanger.
Maybe he/she only changed the tips and did a crap job welding?
Is this how the stock mufflers look after a decade?

I think it's stupid of the dealer to not know/and or bring a car in on trade not knowing - if that's the truth......or maybe it's BS

The mufflers look fine... Pretty common.

The worst part is I am certain that this was taken as a trade, they gave the owner blue book value or lower; they sold a new c7 at 10k below MSRP which is the going rate in the region, and now they are trying to sell the c6z for 10k more than they gave on trade.
Also, for those that have done the muffler mod: I see a seam further forward of the muffler. Is that where one would normally perform the modification?
Also, does this modification add more timber to the exhaust note? The car screams in a way that is particularly ear piercing.

This is the blown up rear view; I noticed there's more exhaust stain on the middle two tips.
With the muffler mod, the welded section bypasses the indirect outlet through the direct outlet.
Is the direct outlet in the middle?

That looks like the muffler mod, which means the mufflers are probably essentially gutted. And it looks as though now all the exhaust is coming out the inner two tips, but the tips look stock to me. I wonder if the NPP is working at all.
edit - after looking at the upper picture, it's not even clear to me that the NPP is still there. I am thinking not.

Here is one I was very close to getting when I was looking for mine that sort of fits that description and look. It was for sale in FL.
